I just finished, "I know this much is true" by Wally Lamb, fabulous. I'm reading "Juile and Julia" by Julie Powell right now.

"Julie and Julia" is a fun book. Julia Child is my kitchen saint.

If you like it, you should try "Heat" by Bill Buford

I don't understand how you can say that, Ann. This site is full of groups about books. I'm a member of several of them. And I wrote a review of TIME TRAVELER'S WIFE the other day. It's in several groups and is featured in the group called Bookin'.

My book club is reading Elizabeth Stout's "Olive Kitteridge,"Pulitzer Prize, 1999, and we all are enthusiastic. It's a bit hard to find used because of book club using it. It is even expensive on Amazon.com ($7.00).

And oldie Daphne DuMaurier's "Rebecca" --Everyone in the book club praised it.

Bill, your impression of this site (I assume you mean Gather) depends in large part on which groups you've looked at. There are lots of different groups. My impression is that it is geared for readers, writers, and parents. Since I'm a reader, that's fine, and those are the groups I frequent. But I, too, complained that so many contests are only for people with kids. You can find too much politics, yes, but I just don't join groups that are full of politics.

The best book I've read lately is: The Heirloom Tomato: From Garden to Table: Recipes, Portraits, and History of the World's Most Beautiful Fruit, by Amy Goldman. I'm currently growing 10 varieties of heirlooms in my small garden plot, along with pumpkins, zuccinis and peppers.

I recently read a book titled "Cry Silent Tears." It was a true story written by the person that is was about. I read it in two days. It is a very touching story about how a young boy surrived much physical, verbal, mental, and sexual abuse by his own family members. He is now married with five children and helps children who have been abused. I also read "One For the Money" by Janet Evanovich. It was a very interesting book. It's about a woman that looses her job and goes to work for her cousin Vinny as a bounty hunter. Laugh out loud funny. I'm now reading "Lost Boy" by Brent Jeffs. He is the nephew of Warren Jeffs of the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. It's his true story of growing up in the Church.

I'm reading The Other Boleyn Girl, by Philippa Gregory. I really like her writing. The best book I've read recently was The Road, by Cormac McCarthy, which I would highly recommend to anybody.

I haven't read The Time Traveler's Wife, but I have it on my shelf, waiting to be picked up.

You ask about The Time Traveler's Wife, and that was the surprise discovery I was going to tell you about. Love stories are not my thing, and science fiction is not my thing; but this book is both, and I really liked it. I reviewed it on Gather just the other day.
