Well, we did pick up a puppy on Saturday. No one could agree on which one would be best, and Maggie wasn't much help. Maggie was so busy running around the farm with all the dogs and puppies. It was fun to just sit and watch them all. It was difficult to get photos, as the dogs were running everywhere....and were also licking my legs.
Christopher wanted 'Shorty', which was the funniest looking puppy. He has these really, really big feet with short little legs. I would say he may have some bassett in him, but he doesn't have the bassett face or ears. He looks like he's always smiling and has a wonderful personality. He keeps up fairly well with the the puppies with the long legs too. When he walks, he kinda' waddles though. Mike said up front that he didn't want a funny looking dog.
Angela wanted Pepper, who isn't from that litter. Pepper was picked up from the middle of the highway in Alabama. He definately has some terrier in him...and maybe a little jack russel. He just took to Angela and let her hold and cuddle him. He does still need a good home, as I vetoed this pup.

Yes, once I downloaded the photos, I noticed the blue heeler "mounting" one of the puppies. Apparently, it's a dominance thing....the big dogs are all fixed.
Maggie had a good time with all the dogs. These are just a few of the dogs...oh my.
After a lot of debate, we decided to take one of the females...and she had to have a bath before we took her home.

She wasn't too thrilled about the bath at first, but Bucky does know what he's doing.

The puppy got all rinsed off, dried, and Bucky clipped her nails up. While he was at it, Mike had Bucky clip Maggie's nails too.
The next task was making sure 100% that Maggie and the puppy would get along. We put her and Maggie (along with Pepper) into one of the kennels, while we went to town to get lunch.

The new puppy is on the far left...and of coarse, you see a very tired Maggie, sticking her tongue out at me. The puppy closest to the fence is Pepper. He was the only one that started yapping.
The dog you see in the background (in the other kennel) is Blue. He's a blue heeler, and he had to be put in the kennel since he will do anything to stay with Bucky. That even means following the truck for miles down the road, which is dangerous.
After lunch, the dogs were there waiting for us. No problems at all, which was a little bit of a relief. Maggie didn't seem to mind the puppies. And we had no problems on the long drive home with either dog. Maggie fell asleep with her head in Mike's lap (as he's driving)....and the new puppy fell asleep in Angela's lap in the backseat.
So, we welcome to the family our new puppy.....and after lots of debate on names....she was going to be Molly. The problem with that is, it confused Maggie. Molly is too close in name and Maggie wasn't sure what to do. Therefore, her name is Lily. Angela picked it out, not me. Mike and I vetoed a few names, like Muffin....and Pebbles (I'm not having a dog named after the Flintstones).

How is Maggie doing with her now that everyone is home?
Maggie is quite funny. Last night, Maggie went up with Mike to bed, but as soon as Lily started whining, she came down and got right up to the crate. She didn't make any noise (Maggie just doesn't), but rubbed noses with Lily. Lily calmed down, so Maggie turned around and went back upstairs. This happened about 4 times in the next hour.
congratulations

In the long run I think Maggie will enjoy some canine company. It will give her something to do when Angela can't play dress-up. Happy Dog Days!
I think you need Pepper...he may have rat terrier in him. His tail is odd, because at the very tip there is a little tuff of hair that makes it look like he has a little puff ball at the end.
