Cottage + kids = great fun, but bad for the diet
This weekend my youngest kid, Jessa, and my niece, Mandy, came for a visit. They didn't get to stay the whole weekend as was originally planned, since Mandy plays rep soccer and was needed for a game that had to be replayed - but we managed to cram a whole lot of fishing, firing and food into the one full day we had, anyway.
No pictures from fishing though - I didn't want to risk my camera or Blackberry - but that was really too bad. Ross let Mandy drive the boat - would have been great pictures! Of course, once she was allowed to drive the boat, fishing suddenly became far less interesting LOL She would have been very happy to just keep moving, I think.
We went for a very long walk - Andrea dropped us off at Walmart to get the graham crackers we needed for s'mores - as you can no doubt tell by my napsack we ended up buying just a ~bit~ more than that. We walked home via the Tay Shore Trail - a good 9 km.

Ross took the girls fishing Friday night and then we had
hotdogs and marshmallows and s'mores and banana boats (bananas with chocolate chips and marshmallows inside; wrap in tin foil and throw in the coals for awhile). Mandy had a great time with her torches - she likes the fire thing.

Scrooge wasn't too happy about being left out of the walk and fishing - but he did seem to enjoy the fire. Yes, Lynn, he ended up with a whole hotdog just for him.
We spent most of Saturday out in the boat again - with more fires in between times (renovating resulted in a LOT of scrap to be burned - we still have lots to get rid of yet). They did take a time out to do some painting for us though. We decided to use a textured black spray paint on our old bathroom fixtures rather than buy all new stuff - it worked very well, and the new medicine chest is going to look great now that it's painted too - the back matches the walls, and the frame on the mirror is the textured black paint.
Turns out to be not such a bad thing that they didn't get to stay over until today anyway - we're having lots of rain and thunderstorms this morning - not good for boating OR for fires.... or for Scrooges (he's shaking up a storm under my desk).
Anyway ... having the kid here made for a great mini-vacation .... but now it's back to work for me; I am just finishing up the Works Cited page for my major research paper, then I need to finalize some stuff for my archives job and then I can start into the next paper. Yay me.
