I wish the English language, particularly the American version, could get a restraining order against Glenn Beck and his fellow angry old men and women. I wish the language could cite abuse and calls to violence as the reason it no longer wants to be spewed from the mouths of these whores of journalism and their backward followers. The language suffered bravely through the mumblings of the bastard 43 and the disjointed ramblings of the Alaskan moosegutter, and now, it is being used as a weapon of terrorism against the people who need it to carry on day to day life.
Following the urging of Rush, Glenn, and those who would have fellow American suffer for lack of access to health care, spread lies and misinformation. They don't want to know the truth- that they or their families or friends can benefit from a reformed health care system. They just want to follow their right-wing masters. Thinking is hard and working with others is just plain dumb.
They can't fight the truth so they work to make sure no one else has access to it. They don't want discussion, they want to scream buzzwords and panic phrases to drown honest information and exchange of ideas out. Yes, they are actually blocking the exchange of ideas because their "my way or the highway" mindset will not allow them to compromise.
And now that words aren't working, they're resorting to physical displays and threats. Pushing and shoving are not so bad, and almost to be expected in a passionate crowd of opposing views. Hanging a Democratic Representative in effigy is an intimidation tactic. To actually threaten a Democratic Congressman with death is so far over the line, I hope someone is in jail for it tonight.
They hate. They hate they've been voted out of office. They hate the idea someone who doesn't have as much money as they, in most cases, think they will have some day will be able to go to the same doctor they see. They hate that they have no way to justify denying health care to so many. They hate that they can't come up with a way to make positive things happen without losing profits for their corporate overlords.
If the fight for health care reform is going to be physical, then the American English language will get a rest. I hope those who feel the need to intimidate with actions and physically harm those they don't agree with remember that it will take words to get them out of prison and even kinder words to integrate them back into society.
I won't have any of those for them.

Yes! Words are powerful, a very powerful tool, and in the hands of a master manipulator, like a Hitler, may be used for very dangerous purposes, and with very destructive outcomes.
But, even when you have your Hitlers, who use words for destructive purposes, there shall also be the Gandhis and now, a gentleman by the name of Barack Obama! So then, words may be used to re-create, build, inspire . . .for positive-powerful purposes as well. The words of an Obama shall always overcome the words of those who use them for negative, wicked, and destructive purposes.
(Now if we can just get him to give up the cigs. haha)
And I was able to hate the bastard.
What does it say about him (them, I think it was a team effort, thanks to Turdblossom) to tap into hatred from one woman who thought it was impossible, and another who had overcome it? That they are so despicable that anyone can/should hate them?
Just about the only thing that I agree with Little George about, is his clever nickname for a true P.O.S.
Yes, right here on gather.com, today, L.H. posted an article threatening to do a "Chicago style"
handling of anyone who is in favor of a national health care plan.
Since Regan, I have been amazed that these people vote against their own self interest in favor of their Corporate Overlords.
They had to bail out Regan's de-regulated Savings & Loans
Then re-elected him so he could bust their unions,
and begin the process of sending their jobs to Communist China
Then Elected Bush one, who continued dismantling the U.S.A. economic system.
Geo. W & Cheney were the Blue Ribbon Bandits,
Promised them Bin Laden
Lied to them so they would send their sons to Iraq
Allowed in 12 million illegal immigrants
Broke the world’s economy
Still they love them.
Imagine,
This party(Republicans) has D E S T R O Y E D the economy of their beloved nation, and their future, their chance of a decent job for themselves or their children, everything they say they believe in.
Why?
So they can hate anyone "not like them"
We are going to have health care.
The town meetings, many now cancelled, were the opportunity for everyone to ask questions and say what they would like the program to look like, how to pay for it, all the issues.
They chose instead to BLOCK their only possibility of participating in the discussion.
The Republican Puppet Masters were afraid for them to learn the facts, had to keep them focused on the lies, so.
They were "sent" to disrupt the meetings, and claim they are a spontaneous grass roots movement.
They did as directed by The Republican Puppet Masters.
Sheesh I MUST stop typing these long comments.
I need to just swoop by and say, "you betcha" and run along, "wink".
I appreciate your long comments. You add intelligently to the conversation.
I believe networks have stripped journalists of their dignity and replaced them with vicious clowns and morons.
I miss it so much. (silent tears)

has been removed.
Well, I have to go gut another tomato.

Dexter is correct, your post is excellent.
We cannot let them win.
Bless you MJ,
This was an awesome write.

There used to be a group on Gather - might have disappeared because I don't remember seeing it on my list lately - dedicated to words. I posted several articles there and enjoyed it. It was like my body part stories group in that it's a topic you don't think you will be interested in until you try it and discover how therapeutic it can be.
It will take a little time for me to find the group and my old 'word' articles so I will have to do it later. If that group is not still around, I think we should create a new one and fill it with words we want to take back from the people who have bastardized and otherwise abused them. Or, letters to words we take issue with (I think I did one of those).
SAVE THE WORDS!
Unfortunately people do not recognize how their words may affect others.
Peace to you.
I love your mantra: 'Say what you mean. Mean what you say. Don't say it mean.'
I want to adopt it. May I?
I would ask the kids who came to me, after a competitive event:
Did you do your very best?
Let me tell you the three things I saw that impressed me...
Now, what can we do next week to make it better/faster/more effective?
You'd be surprised at the number of parents who moved to our team because they liked the way we talked to "our kids."
I was rich--being surrounded with possibilities such as they offered me.
Life is good, sometimes, for babes.
I often wondered, if parents were forced to hear their words spoken back to them on tape when they talked to their kids, could they change what they say? I know they would if they could...but could they?

Anger, for me, is dangerous. It shuts down the brain. Uncontrolled, it might have me kick in--(I may be different from you...because I mean, really, kick back.) If I'd have been "shoved" by an idiotic shouting repub at a town hall in my own (bad) city this week? Only one of us would have been standing afterward--and I'm laying money it wouldn't be the weak knee'd, well-heeled, Repub with the BMW.
Now, on the other hand, the absolute paralyzing FEAR of handing off--to my children, and grandbabes--the world that the Shrub created---well, that has been keeping me politically active and involved/enrolled.
For the future is really worth the fight. I have 3 of my own, four grandbabes, and 4 adopteds and their children to account to. Ours was the generation that was going to save the world. Well? We better get to the saving of it--because is surely has been trashed over the last 8.
Bless you, sister of the mind--and heart.

Maybe it's the 60s coming out in me, but I empathize with people who want to disrupt public meetings even when I totally disagree with them. I felt the same way about LBJ, Nixon, Dean Rusk, et al.
But the causes of the sixties were for the people, not for the corporations.
Huge difference.

Oh yes, I agree.
But the Republicans do keep reinforcing the racism. . . See Obama, Sotomayer. They were right about that, yes?
Still not hard to see from some of these posts, they not only don't understand how manipulated and used they are, they don't have a clue about how our government works.
You, and Grems.
Very rightous comment.
This is the very reason I beg, plead, inveigh, etc... the recovery.gov team to send/add/pledge additional educational dollars for the "red states."
Also, this is why I endorse selling texas to Mexico...and Alaska to whoever wants it. And another reason why I will always be anti-helmet-law...and pro-choice.

All these posts concerning Beck almost compel me to actually listen to the a**hole, just so I know what a recto-cranial invert he is.
But, I think I'm satisfied in taking your word(s) for it.
Great job EM JAY.
I don't know that he's harmless. There are enough nutters listening to him and handing him tissues to wipe his big baby tears.
