The above is a lyric from the song "White and Nerdy" by weird Al Yankovic. If you haven't seen it, you really need to watch it. It's an awesome song-http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1YTYrhWQCgA I'd embed the video but it's been disabled on youtube.
I went to the yard crawl that my county does everyyear (it's 75 miles of yard sales) and on our first stop I found a man selling a bunch of Star Trek stuff (even found a Spock doll). What I ended up walking away with the Klingon dictionary (one of the languages in the Star Trek universe). So, I feel like a complete geek.

But what is a nerd? Sterotypically nerds are potrayed as straight A students, pale, into several 'geeky' hobbies like Dungeons and Dragons, playing Video games, watching anime or reading manga, collecting figures, being a computer whiz...the list goes on.
For me, I admit to being a bit of a nerd. Yes I have very fair skin (not that I don't go outside and I do tan if I burn). I do spend a lot of time studying new things and learning new things (for example, I'm out of class until September 1st but I'm doing independent studies now like working on my sewing, learning new canning techniques, languages etc). I HAVE to get straight A's, and I usually do get straight A's (B's make me go into mourning-but that's me being a perfectionist). I love school and learning so it's not just about getting A's-if I get a B and learn a lesson that means more than getting an A and leanring nothing.
As for hobbies that are considered nerdy-why are they? Why don't we look at other hobbies like keeping up with fashion nerdy? Or even collecting tools (like my dad who has to have 20+ of every tool and i'm not joking). Instead things like playing video games is considered nerdy. Watching Star Trek and being a Trekkie is nerdy (Star Wars however makes you cooler, but still a nerd). Reading manga is nerdy, watching anime is nerdy, playing dungeons and dragons or magic is nerdy. Knowing the ins and outs of computers is nerdy, liking science fiction is nerdy, liking math and science is nerdy...but why?
I like playing video games, I love reading manga, and sometimes I catch an anime or two. I like playing magic with my friends, I love Star Trek (especially Spock), I know things that only a 'geek' would know and do wear glasses (not by choice, contacts and I don't agree and has resulted in no success and a bill). So, I guess I am a nerd because of my interests and because of the hobbies I enjoy, but it's more fun that way. I love fashion and keep up-to date (one of my favorites sites is a fashion blog), I love fashion, I love to sew and make things, I'm a good cook/baker, I like gardening and canning (amongst a lot of other hobbies).
So am I a nerd? Well, I think we all are ;) Now, live free and prosper

What do you consider to be nerdy and what 'nerdy' habits do you have?

I'm a little nerdly. Not by much though.
Because I've never played Dungeons and Dragons, and I don't like chess.
I like computers but, I'm not totally tech savvy.
The only Star Trek I loved was the original series.
After that, they stunk.
Star Wars is the best of all time!
But, I also love Gone with the wind. The ultimate chick movie!
Being a big fan of Ranger Walker is on the nedy side, to me.
LOL.......
: )
I am not a nerd.....
I'm not super smart, but I do like manga, and I wouldn't turn down a good clean game of DnD (or a Marvel Superheroes similar game).
I'm fair, always have been, but for the last decade, I've spent most of my day on the 'puter. ;)
I like '80's cartoons. Give me classic Transformers over that silly new nonsense any day. ;)
haha
I love Star Trek and laughed my *ss off at Revenge of the Nerds...do these things make me a nerd? If so, then I am guilty!
Love Star Trek. Have you seen the newest incarnation? Not half bad ... takes a little suspension of belief because it seemed to me to throw out some essential Trek facts; but the story line pulled it together and I found myself enjoying it. The twist ---- well, you might like it.
Be gentle with us nerds. You will probably work for one.
