There are any number of ways to survive as a graphic design student and be at the top of your class, and it doesn't just involve designing the best poster printing design in your class. One way to succeed and graduate as a top graphic design student is to befriend and hang out with persons who share a similar interest in graphic design. This will include but is not limited to:
Students who spend lots of time in the library. Library time equals study time spent learning about various forms and applications of design through books, blogs, and practice. Design benefits from a varied base of theory and ideas to draw inspiration from.
Students who use their skills and hard work to handle presentations with ease. Students who study hard and have natural ability will have little problem putting together a presentation either in individual or group projects. Confidence in your design helps add to the reliability of your presentation.
Students who spend time talking about graphic design. Time spent talking about graphic design allows students to explore ideas, elaborate on theories and their application to real life design projects. Being able to discuss design with other students greatly increases your knowledge base and also enhances presentation skills and the ability to verbalize design ideas and concepts.
Students who are already freelance graphic designers. On the job experience is a very important part of learning. Freelancing is an ideal way to get graphic design experience and broaden your employment marketability. Look for your own freelance jobs. Posters are common on college campuses. Offer to design posters for student bands or school events. Poster printing is one of the most versatile forms of advertising. Submit a design any time you hear of a poster printing project in the works. Be on the look out for inspiration and submit a poster printing campaign proposal to any and all organizations you are inspired to design for just for the experience. You never know who might use your work.
Students who consistently strive for excellence. No matter what your grades are, those who apply themselves and strive for excellence in their studies are taking advantage of all that their education has to offer. Even if you or your fellow students don’t have the highest grades, the drive for excellence is what motivates and inspires success.
