My poor twins!!

My twins are going into headstart this fall.  Well a few weeks ago I took them to the Ped. for their physical.  Well they got like three shots each.  So I thought that was it.  Well the ped. mailed me the form I gave them to fill out and the shot record.  I was just looking at them yesterday and noticed the shot record said they weren't up to date.  I'm like what the heck!!  I just took them in!  So I was hoping it was a mistake.  Well nope they need 2 more shots! GRRR

Why do they think I took them in for?  I know the form for the school I didn't see those two shots on the shot part of it.  But the nurse letter said their shot records should be up to date for their age.  So at this point.  I want them up to date.. Just because they should be health wise.. and I just don't want to take any chances getting them started in headstart. 

But just irks me that my twins have to go through this again!  The smaller one does well with shots but the other twin not well at all.  It breaks my heart to see them cry and tell me no momma!  The twin that doesn't like shots.  Tells me he doesn't wanna go to preschool!  I think because he doesn't want anymore shots.

Well one good thing is.. we had a appt set up for my two oldest in Sept before school starts.  So they are letting me do the twins then.  But this time Daddywill be there I hope he will go in with the twins this time.  But then again I'm more caring when it comes to comforting them.  But I will make sure to tell them I want the two oldest up to date and I want 2 copies of each shot record.. one for me and one for the schools.  and I'm going to make sure before I walk out it says they are up to date!

What are the additional shots for? Some of them, I feel, are really unneeded.

They wanted my girls to get the Gardisil (hpv) shots...
well my girls are 17, so I let them decide for themselves and they opted not to.

Ok, I know yours are a lot younger, but I'd find out exactly what the shots are for BEFORE you do them. They had wanted my girls to get chicken pox shots, too.... but my girls both HAD the chicken pox, they certainly don't need to be getting any shot for them.

Just find out everything you can BEFORE you just go ahead and do it.

Hi there..they got the chicken pox one when i took them in.. headstart requested it..and no they haven't had it..

they need Hep A and pneumococcal conjugate

If you would like more info on vaccines, email me. They do not have to be current to attend school but no one will tell you that. If one doesn't do well with shots then more than likely he/she shouldn't have all of them at once anyway.

Ah, yes...I remember that year. We always referred to it as the year of the shots. I got lucky, because we went over to the heath dept's big shot gala thing. They did everything there....vision check, hearing screening, height, weight, etc. At every station, the kids got something to add to their bag of 'goodies.' Some of it was school stuff, some of it was little toys, and I think a sucker or two. It made it so much easier for the kids to get their shots. The last station was the shots, and when that was over, the kids got to go in the big tent for ice cream and games.

Neither of my kids got the Varicilla (chicken pox) shot. Pher had the chicken pox when he was little, and we refused with Angela. I signed a waiver at the school. Angela will not be getting the new shot eithe (gardisal)r....nope. I know of a few that reacted very badly.

those shots are crazy (you can opt out of them you know)
I've worked at Headstart for 13 years....however, in all that time only 3 parents have signed the papers to not get the shots.
I have my 12 yr old set up for three shots Friday...she's not happy with me....I wouldn't choose to opt out just for the benefits of getting them and not getting what they are there to protect against.

There are more shots on the way as they get into kindergarten too etc. I normally take my shots records with me as i go to see the ped for my kids so nobody misses anything.

they got the 4 year/5 year booster and she said they needed that for kindergartener too so they dont have to worry about that one now

I am sure it's heartbreaking... but spreading out the shots is better for the kids than having too many at one time.

I used to hate having to take my kids in for their shots. They'd always look at me with those big blue eyes as if to say, "Why are you letting them hurt me, Mommy?" I was such a wimp! In fact, I still am. When it comes to taking our dog in for shots, they take him away from to do it. My heart goes out to you, Jenn. Maybe you could stop and treat them to a DQ or buy them $1 toy at the dollar store afterwards.

Maybe we could do something like that. I'll talk to daddy about it. But yeah when they cry or when they are begging me to not let them give them shots.. I get all teary eyed bad

Next week I've got three days of appointments for shots/well child checks. It's easier to just do each appointment all alone. The last time we took them all in, my oldest was first, and he cried but took it well. Then my seconded youngest was put on the table and my oldest ran over, bawling his little eyes out, and said, "Please don't hurt my brother!"

Broke my heart! He just cried and cried over his little brothers having to get shots too. So now we just make three appointments.

all that is so sweet. when the twins were small infants. I remember this one time.. Jon Jon went first.. but his brother was in his carseat sleeping.. that pool little guy was woken up by a shot!

I know when my gds has gone in for shots it seems they give them too many shots at one time.

I know last time Katie went in for shots she did not drop it for weeks. Everyone she saw she told them how she had to get shots. They laughed when we told them it was a month ago.
