Chick's First Outting!

Our chicks got the first taste of the great outdoors as a flock today! It was a huge success after hand feeding these babes for 5 weeks. They did just as we hoped they would and followed us around and ran to us when we called.

They graduated to spending most of the day in the outdoor coop about a week ago, but we still bring them in at night. Although ,now that they have feathers we do not have to use the light anymore for warmth.

They love watermelon and chickweed , carrot greens and grass hoppers!

Now to name them!

How lovely to have chicks! Brings back many happy memories for me - where I am there're too many bears and critters in the forest to have a coop:(

This is awesome to see - we have a much younger flock that's growing fast also. Will definitely be keeping an eye on yours.

They are a mix of brown egg layers - we're not sure yet what breeds as we were guaranteed 5 from a rather long list. That's been part of the fun though - trying to figure out what they will become.

I had a rooster named Col. Fandango. He was a banty rooster who didn't know he was a rooster because he was the only egg that hatched.

HA I had one of those once..a barred rock called Carl...he was so in love with me it was funny...Silver Dollar City adopted him from me(years ago)

OH no eatin' these...these are pets only...
I'll eat the eggs if they produce any..but even those will be small...
I literally got them to eat bugs and poop ovr my compost pile
