We went to see "The Ugly Truth" this week. The movie is cute. a feel good romantic comedy.
I've got to admit to being prejudiced. I'm a big Katherine Heigl fan. I liked her so much on the TV show "Roswell" that I looked for her earlier works. Her great looks may be helpful in dragging that guy to a chick flick.
Katherine Heigl plays a TV producer of a morning TV show with married anchors. She's great at handling all the stressful details of her job. She suddenly has to deal with the ratings draw of a male chauvinist, played by Gerard Butler. I disliked him from the first minute, so it's easy to see why her character would as well.
(While I've done my share of male bashing in the past, it always seems strange to me when men do it. Setting themselves up as shallow, sex driven slobs seems strange to me)
Kevin Connally (E from "Entourage") plays a tiny, but memorable role. We were laughing about it on the way home. There are quite a few recognizable faces in the cast.
The story revolves around their relationship, with a little crudeness and bad language. You know how it's going to end from the beginning, but that's true of almost all romantic comedies. It was fun to watch their personal growth. It's probably a chick flick that your guy won't mind sitting through. In fact, when Katherine Heigl is hanging upside down in her underwear, he may just thank you.
