This is actually a variation on my own recipe, using what I had on hand.
I sure missed the cilantro I normally put in though.
ghee
1/2 an onion, chopped
1 lb ground beef
2 cloves garlic, minced
1" fresh ginger, minced
1 t coriander
1 t cumin
1/2 t each: turmeric and allspice
salt and ground black pepper to taste
1 fresh tomato, chopped
2 potatoes, peeled and diced
1/2 cup frozen peas
garam masala to taste
In a large frying pan, heat a little ghee over medium heat. Add the onion and cook til starting to soften, about 5 minutes. Add the beef and cook til no longer pink. Drain any grease. Stir in the garlic and ginger and cook another minute or so.
Add the coriander, cumin, pepper, turmeric, allspice and salt to the pan. Cook, stirring, for about 1 minute. Add tomatoes. Bring to a boil. Cover and simmer about 10 minutes.
Stir in the potatoes. Bring back to a boil. Cover. Reduce heat and simmer for 15 more minutes or til potatoes are tender.
Stir in the peas. Simmer til the peas are just done, about 5 minutes.
Remove pan from heat and stir in garam masala.
I served this over basmati rice alongside steamed cauliflower tossed with ghee.
