I had heard a lot of hype over Acai Berry juice and how it was supposed to be a major antioxidant that led to weight loss. It had always seemed prohibitively expensive to me, but recently while at Costco I spotted the Kirkland brand of Acai blueberry juice. You got two 33.8 oz bottles for 9.99. I thought it was a product worth trying. The taste of the juice is good. It is a little high in sugar at 140 calories for an 8 oz glass. I have been aware it seems to have a colonic effect, but other than that I can't really notice a difference in how I feel. My blood pressure also seems to be under control, but it wasn't bad prior to the juice consumption. Studies with Acai berry juice show that this juice has a higher antioxidant content than any other berry juice. One thing Acai does have a high variety of anthocyanins and flavonoids. These are responsible for giving the fruit it's purplish hue. Blueberries are also high in these nutrients. They help defend the body against life stresses and protect against heart disease. Studies that have been done with Acai Berry are inconclusive as to whether or not it promotes weight loss. I think that would be marvelous if it indeed does that. The jury is still out on this product, but it is affordable.
