This morning I was able to check off the last few things from our very loooonnnng school supply list. Four kids need a lot of things! What happened to crayons and markers? Only the youngest kids are asked to bring these any more. Now it's reams of computer paper and zip drives! And what is the obsession with rings for index cards, which I can never seem to find?? LOL.
Only one more thing to buy, and that is a backpack for our oldest son. We try to recycle these for a second year of use but his has a big gaping hole in it. Not quite going to work! But we saw a good ad online and are probably going to go with that option. Everything is labelled with my handy dandy black Sharpie. We have the right width in looseleaf lines and binder sizes, and I think we should take out stock in the major tissue manufacturers. We bought enough boxes to single-handedly bring up the market in that arena! We even have a small homework "kit" in each car, with looseleaf, pencils and erasers. We're READY!
My strategy this year was to pick up two or three items per week all summer long, keeping the kids' lists handy and labelling and packing right into their backpacks as we went along. That really was the way to do it -- took so much of the stress away! Now I don't have to do battle in crowded aisles during last minute, short-lasting sales, or fight for that last protracter or box of red pens!
Now I just have to worry about kissing my summer schedule goodbye. It's so much less hectic. No school, no Sunday school, no after school activities or youth group or evening catechism classes. No parent teacher conferences or IEP meetings. It's not that those things aren't an important and valued part of our lives, but it's nice to be able to slow down for a couple of short months each year. Soon it will be time to get up early (well, earlier) again and run around through car lines. <sigh>

We buy any that could potentially break.. such as my husbands travel golf bag... I'm sure those airport handlers just toss the bag...this way if it rips... he can get a new one. He also buys LLbean with the kids school duffle bags, his garment bag.. we buy bean boots for winter. I actually was able to get new bean boots for a small leak years after my initial purchase ..no question asked..they just said "go pickout a new one." very cool.
good job!!! :)
BTW, I can never find those rings for the index cards either. Last year the teacher gave us that. I kept it for this year, just in case.
We'll find out soon who the home room teacher will be. We know the science teacher (same one for 6-8 grades), and the social studies teacher (both 7 & 8th). Otherwise Language Arts changes this year. All "specials" (that is Gym, Music, Art & Family Life) are the same (unless the Music teacher left again). School starts on the 2nd of September (the Wed before Labor Day, which I find very strange) and Trev graduates on the 16th of June! I printed out the school schedule and the September lunch menu for the cafeteria. Both were online already.
Whatever supplies I bought already I put in Trevors bag (his bag from last year seems to be in good condition so he doesn't get a new one this year). As I get the supplies, I will put them in order and into the bag.
I am lucky - I only have one child to do this for. I would go nuts if I had 4! Good luck.
Guess "all" we have to worry about are the tons of college textbooks that we'll be buying.....LOL~!!!!!
That is a great idea to buy school supplies a little at a time great money saving idea

I need now to get all the books and things out and let Jasmine decide with me what she is going to do this school year.
