What do we see in this stained glass window?
There is a serpent figure in a fruit tree. There is a man and a woman. Who stands between them? Is that God*? Or an angel perhaps. Angels are not the same things as gods are they?
This is the symbolic story of Adam and Eve from the Bible.
There are many creation myths around the world which mirror the story of Adam and Eve. Myths are often founded upon real events.
The Bible gives us valuable clues about the origins of modern human beings. It contains some truths but we have to 'read between the lines' to understand them. It also contains many deceptions we need to be aware of.
A recurrent theme in the Bible is: Good versus Evil. The Lord is depicted as both (not just good - 'God' - though never described as evil). Does that sound like the knowing, loving Creator we have come to know and love in this presentation? No!
The opening line of the Bible reads:
"First God made heaven and earth".
No. We cannot accept the Lord made heaven and earth, because the universe is balanced and the Lord is not. The world of the Lord is one of polarity, and polarity goes against Universal Law.
Let us return to Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden (a real place, which was the work of the true Creator and not the Lord). According to the Bible, this man and woman - the first human beings to walk the Earth we are told - were warned by the Lord. He told them not to eat fruit from the Tree of Knowledge.
But the Lord was disobeyed by Eve. Here is how the Bible describes the moment Eve was 'tempted' by the serpent to eat the fruit:
Serpent: Did God forbid you to eat the fruit of the trees of the garden?
Eve: We may eat the fruit of the trees of the garden; but God said, "You shall not eat of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, neither shall you touch it, lest you die."
Serpent: You will not die. God knows that the day you eat of the fruit your eyes shall be opened and you will be like gods, knowing good from evil.
What the serpent said to Eve needs to be studied closely, because it contains clues which lead to extraordinary revelations about our origins.
* In order to separate the biblical God from the Creator of the universe, we shall say "Lord" from now on.
Eve is curious about why she exists. She chooses to educate herself. And just like you, she wants to know:
Why am I here on Planet Earth?
So she visits the Tree of Knowledge and encounters the serpent. Adam is not mentioned at this time; and it is Eve who is 'tempted'.
By depicting a woman as the first 'sinner', the Bible is telling us that women have a lower status than men. As if to underline this, it is Eve and not the serpent who urges Adam to bite into the apple.
Here we see the Bible deliberately undermining women. A woman is Mother Earth (she nurtures Earth's natural goodness) and as such is vital to the wellbeing of the planet*. The Bible makes it clear the Lord would not allow women to have this loving role, even though it was meant for them.
When Eve bites into the apple, she is Mother Earth eating her own produce! Is that sinful?
(How does the apple represent knowledge? Apple is Fruit. Fruit is the product of Nature. Nature is God. God is the Creator. The Creator is All There Is. All There Is is The Knowledge.)
Serpent: Did God forbid you to eat the fruit of the trees of the garden?
Unless it is acting as a double agent for the Lord, the serpent is clearly not on the Lord's side. And given the Lord is capable of wiping out whole communities of people (in 'retribution') we can conclude the serpent, in revealing the secrets of life to human beings, must have been against the Lord. We know the Lord did not want the truth to be revealed; it was his greatest fear.
Why a serpent? Throughout history, serpents have been portrayed as sly creatures, which is not to say they are.
Are you getting the impression the Adam and Eve story is all upside down? Portrayed as good, the Lord is actually bad. Portrayed as bad, Man is actually good.
Serpent: You will not die. God knows that the day you eat of the fruit your eyes shall be opened and you will be like gods, knowing good from evil.
"You will not die". The serpent is revealing to Eve that if she eats the fruit she will know life is eternal. As we saw in part one of this presentation, there is no death, just transition. The serpent knew: we are all fragments of the universe; we are all part of the whole; we are all One.
"God knows that the day you eat of the fruit your eyes shall be opened ..." In other words, when she learns the truth about life, Eve will experience a Spiritual Awakening. The Lord will do anything to stop this from happening. He does not want the truth to be revealed; it is his greatest fear.
"... and you will be like gods, knowing good from evil." Like gods? Or like God?
In the Bible it clearly says: "gods". What gods?
Let us go deeper.
* Planet Earth has not been in balance for a very long time. There is an ever increasing dominance of the negative (masculine) aspect over the positive (feminine).
According to the Bible, Adam was the first human being on Earth, and was given no choice as to who he would be:
"Let us make man in our image, after our likeness."
This line in the Bible suggests the very first human being (and by implication all those that followed, including us) was by nature good and evil. It also implies good and evil are necessary components of life.
Not true. Throughout history humans have been encouraged to blame themselves for creating suffering in the world, but there have always been hidden forces at work. Over thousands of years, Man has been mind manipulated into taking decisions which go against his Spirit (Essence), and this has dictated the course of our history.
The Lord allotted Adam the task of tending the Garden of Eden, and this he did dutifully. Then Eve was created:
"So the LORD God caused a deep sleep to fall upon the man, and while he slept took one of his ribs and closed up its place with flesh; and the rib which the LORD God had taken from the man he made into a woman and brought her to the man."
After eating the fruit from the Tree of Knowledge, Adam and Eve immediately saw they were naked, and were ashamed.
But of what were they ashamed? Simple nakedness?
No. The serpent had told them the truth:
Adam and Eve, our direct ancestors, knew they were slaves*.
Adam was genetically engineered as a slave for the Lord. Eve was genetically engineered to mate with Adam and create more slaves.
* Slaves used to work naked. Their masters were clothed.
