The Democrats are busy in Washington trying to take more of our money - via cap & trade and via health care reforms. Even the Congressional Budget Office says that both will be costly to everyone. And economists say that both will create job losses.
Then, in Michigan, where unemployment is reaching 15%, Democrats are calling for minimum wage to be raised from $7 and some change to $10 and some change.
Think about that. Under the health care reforms being proposed by Democrats, all employers will have to pay 75% of insurance premiums for employees and 65% for families. We can expect companies to downsize because of those regulations and we can expect some companies to close. Small employers will not be able to afford this.
Then, in these economic times, the Democrats in Michigan think this is a bang-up time to raise the minimum wage by $3.
One has to wonder if they want everyone to be unemployed.

When my job here goes bye-bye, I am positive I will get a minimum wage job only out here. That kinda sucks. I have 16 years of business experience, and I'll be working for peanuts. I'd make more staying on UI :-(
Pam, when we get into rent control, we are moving towards socialism at an even more rapid rate. The health care problem is not going to be solved by socialist one-payer systems. It will take some serious thinking and some hard looking by serious people.
Something the Republican Party lacks as is evident by their not having addressed any of these issues when they were in power. Now that the Democrats are in power, all the republicans can do is say NO. They still have no ideas or plans, just say NO.

the more dependant on the giovernment people are, the more they will vote for Democrats too ....
when will people see through all of the lies ? ? ?
friends with our money, maybe.........
I am not addressing Repubs or Dems. I am merely pointing out something that anybody with a piece of paper and pencil can figure out for themselves. Something that also needs to be pointed out is that when it's said unemployment is down, that's not true. Social Security enrollments are up 25% because so many folks have given up on the job search.
How many truly qualified men and women are now out of the job force because there are no jobs? Our nation depends on the "more mature" worker because in many cases, they are the only people who actually know what they're doing.
As I've said before, I don't think we should put anyone in Washington who has not run or owned a business. Those dudes and dudettes in Washington live in their own little worlds that are nothing like the real world.
Gee, I had no idea if at anytime you find yourself out of a job, you could simply apply for Social Security. How does that work, where are the forms to apply as you suggest?
those still here; please exit via I75 (oops wait, there's construction). please leave via I94 (oops wait, there's construction). ok everyone...head to canada; do you have your enhanced license? no.....the lines are too long at the 3 secretary of state offices that offer this license. what's a michigander to do??
sorry....i'm growing to hate the state i was born in; but i don't see a way out either.
Gee, maybe you could apply for one of those jobs seeing as there is so much construction going on?
Raising the minimum wage at this time will only increase un-employment. While it is a good thing to do, this is not the time.
Alas! I make $7.50 an hour, so since the minimum wage increase occurred, I now make closer to minimum wage than I did a couple weeks ago.
minimun goes up then the next higher guy wants a raise then the 3ed higher wants one and on and on and on, pushing inflation to a frenzy.
I watched the minimum wage catch up to my wages at a job, that at the time I got it, was good paying.......(minumum wages almost doubled at the time)......
the bosses excuse was that "I" already made over minimum wage.....
When I worked for Sears (very briefly), I was told that it didn't matter if you had 20 years retail experience, that they always started at minimum wage.
i don't always follow party lines, i follow my heart & my facts. i don't always agree with marilyn (sorry marilyn!!) but i do read what both sides have to say about an issue & then do my own research to make my own informed decision. i don't make uninformed comments about things i know nothing about.
i do read all of your posts marilyn. i may not always comment, if i don't have something of value to contribute. i also know that if i disagree with you; we are both adults willing to agree to disagree.
thanks for doing all the writing & posting you do. it makes us all think. that's a good thing. :)
The real solution is to stop inflating the currency. But alas, the deficit stands in the way. They want to monetize it away through inflation, which robs common Americans of their purchasing power.
We need to Audit the FED and then get rid of the FED. They have reduced the value of the dollar 96% since they took over.
