This story was written a while back when I used to do live action role playing in a group up in NJ. My character, a muse named Moonshadow Daverbrielle du Lac kin Ravnos, shared this tidbit of writing one night around the bonfire.
An A"muse"ing Tale
by
Moonshadow Daverbrielle du Lac kin Ravnos
This human sitting under my favorite tree had long blond hair, dressed only in a white flowing gown and was barefoot. She sat still. Very still. In her lap was the largest book I had ever seen.
Naturally my curiosity was piqued. What wonderous works of literature could hold someone's attention so rapt that they appear as immobile as stone? The mystery of it was driving me insane. I had to know, and I had to know now.
Very quietly I tiptoed up to her and cautiously peered over her shoulder.
You'll never believe what I saw in that book!
NOTHING!
How could this be? Maybe I just needed to be closer? So I peered around her side. It was incredible!
I still saw nothing!
So throwing caution to the humans, I jumped in her lap and leaned in real close...
WHAM!
(owie that hurt bad)
So I learned the hard way why letters I could not see. I became a victim of Lady Cottington and her book of "pressed fairies".
Lady Cottington's book of pressed fairies by Brian Froud.
dare you look?
