Two Steps Forward
Two steps forward,
three steps back,
always lagging behind.
Too hard to run
with cane in-hand,
too slow to ever catch up.
Walk slower, could you?
None of us are perfect,
me, not the least.
Talk softer, I can hear,
show me beauty,
for I can see.
Put your hand in mine,
don't drag me, I'll fall.
I'm slow, you see?
Let the world rush by,
does it have to be this way?
Rudeness hurts the soul.
Two steps forward,
three steps back,
stopping so often to sit.
I wonder what I see
that all of you miss,
wondering why you rush.
I saw you all texting,
to people right next to you,
what happened to talking?
My phone's for emergencies,
it doesn't text at all,
am I that far behind?
Two steps forward,
three steps back,
but I saw that new bloom.
Did you know you missed it,
while rushing about your lives,
being your very important selves.
I spent time with the ducks,
sitting on a bench feeding them,
where were you then?
Ever wonder what you're missing,
in your rushed-world,
everyday so busy lives?
Don't feel sorry for me,
as I'm not as fast as you.
I still take time for hugs.
I think sometimes,
who you've become, to ignore,
a greeting, a smile, my hurt?
I knew you when you smiled
and cared about others,
even took time to show it.
I wonder who's really taking
the two steps forward,
three steps back.
Yes, I know it's me,
but maybe it's you too?
Think about it, in a spare minute.
Call a friend, look outside,
slow down when you drive.
Enjoy life for what it is.
Try, two steps forward,
three steps back,
and I bet you'll see a lot.

I'm behind you wondering who that woman in front of me is, and why she is rushing! lol
I've gotten to the point of enjoying the sight of tall trees, or even a redlight high above. I'm a bit tired of waiting for a car to drive by, knowing, if I did actually walk cross the street in front of them, they'd be angry that I'm taking so long. We got time. So few do.
It is funny to walk like I have to, only to see a hostess, receptionists, technician, or stock person turning around at the other end of the hallway/aisle and having that surprise look when they discover "she's way back there! What happened?" I gave up saying, "slow down," long ago.
Now! Stop rushing, Lady. There's always someone even slower. lol
