Have you ever seen.....

 

A hanging four way stop sign, instead of a traffic light?

A tree replacing the motor of a 60s Chevy Impala Wagon?

I consider myself a "gypsy" of sorts but in my 40 years I have never seen these things....until now!  I found these two items during my grave hunting expedition yesterday.

 

I suppose the community is going green by not using electricity on a traffic light....Regardless, it took me totally by surprise.

As for the tree replacing the motor,well, Mother Nature has a tendency to reclaim her space...

No, I have never, never seen a hanging stop sign. I would bet it gets ignored all the time. Trees out of old junk cars...well I have seen shrubs and berry vines out of some old ones in the woods but not a tree. Great photos Renda.
Isn't that odd? My husband says the town his grandmother grew up in has one too. I just couldn't get over it (still not).
The tree was not too awfully big, but it was big enough to know the car had been there a while. I had to take a look at the front to prove the car hadn't hit the tree and wasn't just "wrapped around it".
Make sure you cool off from mowing!

My face still looks like a bad make up job but at least I'm not shaking anymore. I came in and had some cold tea and put water on my head.
That happens, doesn't it? Yard work can be strenuous...but it is worth it. Glad you cooled off. Hope your Monday has been good.

I suspect that the stop sign is there because people sometimes take them down..Or maybe it was mother nature being creative. the car is one that I wouldn't take a ride in. lol great job taking these pictures and sharing them.
It was odd to me. It looks like (from the lines) that there was a traffic light there at one time and they just took it down.

Can't say I've seen either, but that car has been there a long time for that big of a tree to grow there!! Great finds!!
Jeanna, that's what I thought. I don't know how fast pine trees grow and this one was very big, but big enough. Good to see ya.

Nope the stop sign is new to me. it is cool~ But the tree in place of a motor, yep I have seen a few of those before
Melanie, the stop sign is odd. The tree in place of the motor was different for me too because the abandoned vehicles I've seen have plants and trees near them but I've never seen one that actually grew where a motor was. Funny.

You know what my response to these are..."You might be from Alabama if...." LOL Only in Alabama. I have never seen a 4 way stop in the air. Maybe it was to keep those wacky Alabamians from stealing it for scrap aluminum. That last line is especially for Allen :) Great finds, btw. Love you !

You've got me laughing with this one...I'm wondering how anyone new to the area would see the four way stop...and the car with the tree...I've seen a few of those in my adventures...

oh and...this article was not in my feed...nothing by you has been for awhile...I guess I need to contact Gather and find out what the deal is.
I'm glad you got a laugh out of this. I had been on the main highway going through this little town, but had never ventured off it until just recently and I was SHOCKED when I saw that hanging sign. I slammed on brakes and looked at my husband with that WTF look....LOL.

I'm not getting any from several people in mine either. I don't know what is up with that.
I checked my email alerts and feeds and all that ....something has gone haywire (is that a word?)

Yes, and I always wonder about who owned the truck and why it was left there.
It is curious, isn't it? I also wonder about the house and why it is just sitting there. Makes me wonder what happened to the people that lived there and drove the car.

Yes, I once was a hunter, and I would come across things like this -- old farm steads, car, trucks, etc. and I would alway wonder about the people who had lived there.
I am glad that I am not the only one that does that, Renda.
You know, it reminded me of the "little grand canyon" in Georgia. Along one of the trails is a couple of old (older than this), abandoned vehicles. I still do not know the story behind those. You know...who they belonged to, how they got there, why the person(s) left them, etc, etc.

The 4 way stop sign is a great way for traffic cops to get to write tickets, I would think. The locals might know it's there & stop, but travelers probably wouldn't always see it.

Great photos! The four way stop sign looks like the result of budget cuts. The car with the trees must have been there a reeeaallly long time!

It sounds like a good way to go green for a city. When traffic finally gets bad enough for a light, people are used to seeing signals there.

LOL ~ Not only interesting, but strange too. I thought it was odd. After seeing this one, I actually saw one here in Dothan too. Although it wasn't "four sided" like this one, it still was a hanging stop sign...LOL.
