I was reminded of this poem that my great-grandmother so often read to me when I was just a small child, as I watched both of my grandchildren, Lilly and Aiden, enjoy the new swing we put up in our front yard for them last week. Their smiles and laughter and the look of pure abandon on their sweet little faces told stories of complete joy....the way childhood is supposed to be.
The Swing
Robert Louis Stevenson
How do you like to go up in a swing?
Up in the air so blue?
Oh, I do think it the pleasantest thing
Ever a child can do!
Up in the air and over the wall,
Till I can see so wide,
Rivers and trees and cattle and all
Over the countryside--
Till I look down on the garden green,
Down on the roof so brown -
Up in the air I go flying again,
Up in the air and down!
Up in the air so blue?
Oh, I do think it the pleasantest thing
Ever a child can do!
Up in the air and over the wall,
Till I can see so wide,
Rivers and trees and cattle and all
Over the countryside--
Till I look down on the garden green,
Down on the roof so brown -
Up in the air I go flying again,
Up in the air and down!

Again, a lovely post.
My favorite swing in childhood was my grandparents' tire swing.....
I also liked the plain slat swing at my other grandparents' house.
