On June 16th at approximately 2:30am, I was awakened by the phone. I didn't answer it, but promptly got out of bed when I heard this message, "Gina, it's Nancy next door. Can you come out front? A drunk driver just hit all our cars."
That's enough to wake anyone out of a deep sleep. I didn't hear a thing, but my neighbors all heard it. They were outside in a flash. In fact, by the time I got outside, the underage drunk driver was already taken to jail.
The cops were going through her car when I got outside and there was a stack of about 10 shot glasses and a dozen empty liquor bottles in the back seat. Oh, did I mention that I saw her car rammed into my car, my car was jacked up onto the sidewalk and pushed forward at least 4 ft and sitting in the back of my neighbor's Lexus RX330. I have a Nissan Murano, by the way.
In total, she damaged 4 cars. It looked like she side swiped the 2 cars behind me and my car. Then when she realized that she did that she probably panicked and drove her little car right into my car and did the final damage, which also damaged the Lexus.
My car had the worst damage. In fact, the damage to my car was more than the other 3 cars put together.
Here's just some of the damage to my car: rear suspension bar and arm were bent, radiator and a/c condenser were crushed, front and rear bumpers were damaged, rear driver's side door and quarter panel were damaged, rear brake line was cut, 4 new tires were needed, and 3 new rims were needed.
I'll continue what happened in part 2, but here are a few pictures for your viewing pleasure.
This is what I saw when I went outside. Both airbags in her car were deployed. As you can see, she must have side swiped the car first (because of the damage on the bumper) before she hit it like this.
This is what her car looked like after the tow truck pulled her away from my car with the chains.
This is my car sitting in the back of my neighbor's car after being hit. The trash cans sitting on the sidewalk were originally next to my neighbor's car, not mine. That's how far forward my car was pushed.
There are more pictures below if you are interested. Thanks for looking.
By the way, I just want to say that while this has been a frustrating experience, I am mostly sharing this experience because of the drunk driving aspect.
This young girl is very lucky that she only damaged 4 cars and did not hurt anyone, including herself or her passengers. It is my hope that she has learned a big lesson from this and does not drink and drive ever again. I understand that people are going to drink, including young people, but I just don't get how they think that it's okay to get behind the wheel. I know that think they are invincible, but there has been so much education about drunk driving that I just can't except that as an excuse.
