The following is a poem that I wrote for my husband several years ago. It seems an appropriate timeto bring it up again as he and I will celebrate 33 years of marriage together tomorrow. I hope you like this simple poem that tells of our beginning...
A blind date started it all,
Back in '73 in the early fall.
Although it didn't happen overnight,
My mom knew you were my Mr. Right.
We spent that first night at the fair,
You later laughed at what I chose to wear.
White jeans just didn't seem to be the "norm",
And you lent me your jacket to keep me warm.
I was a mere child of fifteen,
You a young man at seventeen.
Two young strangers, you and I,
Both of us a little shy.
We stood out underneath the stars,
Out on the hood amongst the cars.
We talked for hours on end,
Somehow, in you, I'd found a friend.
You were so different from the other guys,
Someone of honor who'd tell me no lies.
It meant a lot to know you cared,
That you would keep the secrets I shared.
My heart was fragile from relationships gone sour,
You showered it with love; nurturing it like a flower.
The love I once tucked deep inside,
Met you at the surface forever to abide.
Who'd have thought it would ever last?
It all seemed to happen so very fast.
But here we are and still together,
With God's help it'll be forever!
