Gather should really have a choose your own option gift card! It would really benefit a lot of people, including me. I can't get paypal (because I don't have paypal (because of age)) to spend on the stuff I like best. I really only shop at Nordstrom and Abercrombie and my parents only shop at fred meyer and safeway for food. The only gift card that I could get would be the target one, but I could only use that for toothpaste and shampoo and a little bit of makeup. So, the gather gift cards don't really suit my needs.
However, if gather had a choose your own gift card option I could get what ever gift card I need. I realize that this would require the gather staff to go find the gift card. So, i think the option should be 100 points more than the regular 25$ gift card for a $25 one and 200 points more than a regular 50$ gift card for a $50 one. Or whatever. But it wouldn't be too hard because most websites offer free shipping for their gift cards and if you go to most chain gorcery stores they usually have a wall of different gift cards from all sorts of store. The gift cards could cost a bit more( points wise ) and it could take a little more time to get to us. I know a bunch of people that would be fine with that, that are on gather.
Plus, this would benefit us (the gather-ers ) and the gather website because we would get the reward we want and I know people didn't join gather just because they didn't have gift cards they could use. So, it would just benefit everybody!!!!

not sure what you mean by you can't get paypal because of your age?
I can't wait for my 12 yr old to turn 13 and sign up...she will be happy as a lark with target though.
It would be nice to have a Visa...Master Card or Discover Card to chose from.
I think allowing open-ended gift card options would be rather difficult for Gather to administer. Chasing after a specific card for every member would require a lot of time and resources. Instead, perhaps offering a VISA or MASTER CARD gift card would be provide equivalent flexibility. Plus, if it was a Gather branded gift card (the Gather logo would appear on it), it could also serve as a marketing tool.
Thanks for sending me a link to your post. The only efficient way we could add the kind of flexibility to the gift card options that I think you're looking for is to add a Visa or Mastercard option. We looked into this about a year ago and they do cost more points to offer, which is why we didn't add them to our list. We should look into this again as an option.
