My husband and I went to a Christmas store on Monday. It was one of those that stock Christmas merchandise all year round. It started me thinking about how much I love Christmas and why.
I love Christmas because of the charitableness (I know it's not a word) that seems to happen around Christmas. It seems that (for the most part) the best in people comes out during this time. People are more willing to give to others whether it be money or just a smile or a simple Merry Christmas.
I love the festive mood of Christmas. Every seems a little bit cheerier (although albeit a little more harried as well.) The lights on the trees and the houses are always so wonderful to look at. I love the decorations in the malls. I even love the same Christmas songs that they play over and over again. I love the colder weather. I love the hope of snow and the hot drinks that come with the season.
I love the traditions that go along with Christmas. Each family does it differently. Whether it be the giving of gifts, the eating of the Christmas meal, or the same movie that is watched every year. It's a time that seems to bring people together.
Even with all these wonderful things, though, we must not forget the real reason for Christmas. Yes, the lights and the movies and the music and the cookies and the hot chocolate are wonderful, but what is the season really about? The birth of Jesus Christ.

Next is Thanksgiving.
I try to keep Christmas in my heart all the year through
and I feel The Reason for the Season, who is in my heart
as well, smiles upon this endeavor.
I've always loved Christmas, especially when my kids were little. It can cause hurt and depression, too, though. When our children grow up, it's not easy to get the whole family together. Sometimes we build up big expectations only to be hurt when things don't turn out as we'd hoped.
