Every once in a while, it's nice just to take a day or two and get away. My husband and I needed to do that at the beginning of this week. We went to a little town called Helen, GA. It's a nice, quaint, little town that I'd love to tell you about.
Some people might call Helen a tourist trap, and they'd probably be right. Still, it's a neat town to go to for several reasons. First, let me just show you a few pictures.

First of all, one of the great things that I think about Helen is the fact that if you stay in a hotel in the town, EVERYTHING is in walking distance. There are little shops to check out as well as a small supermarket if you need groceries. There are even several places to eat within walking distance. There is a little river that runs through the town as well which is nice to look at plus you can go tubing (when the weather is warmer.)
There's a great candy shop right in the middle of town. They have the best fudge there along with candy apples and other great goodies. That's definitely something to check out. Plus, they have a store that sells coo-coo clocks. Nothing I could ever afford, but once again it's something that you really should see.
As far as main stream restaurants, there are a few but not many. There's a huddle house, a wendy's, a blimpie, and a subway that are all within walking distance of town. The other restaurants have a variety of fares that of course include but are not limited to the German bratwursts and weinerschnitzel.
I encourage you to look into this town. It may be a tourist trap, but it's definitely worth checking out just for a few days.

Just out side the town of Helen is Unicoi State Park and in the park is located AnnaRuby Falls. Another great place to visit while you are visiting Helen.
:O)
My friends have been to this town and they loved it. They came back raving about the food and how friendly everyone is. Are the hotels expensive?
