One of the places in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park that we visited was Cades Cove. This was another scenic loop drive with places to park, hiking trails and also scenic places to pull over and take photos or just enjoy the views.
I posted two videos that DH took and here are some photos of the animals we came across. I'll be splitting the photos across a few photo essays since I took so many. The other photo essays will be mountain views, flowers, butterflies and Abrams Falls.
The first stop was just as we started the scenic loop drive and saw these beautiful horses with a newborn taking a nap in the meadow. I was hoping he would get up since this isn't a very good picture, but he was napping soundly.

Another pair of horses with a young colt.

Some wild flower bushes and wild turkey. I'm not familiar with this particular type of wild turkey, they have this strange thing hanging from their necks in the front. Maybe someone will know what that is.

Their feathers are really pretty.

Then there was an elk eating some berries.

Typical animal shot, more back shots than facials.
Of course there was a squirrel, they seem to be everywhere.

A bear was running through the woods.

Right near the end we saw this pretty doe.

And this was only part of the day!
Next stop will be some mountain views and flowers. See you there.

Glad to see the bear was running past you. :~)
The newborn foals and those threesomes - stunning shots.
What a gorgeous place and those Elk shots were stunning too. You must have used your new lens.
I think this is my favortie essay out of the series so far, well except for the baby bear pix.
Thanks for the video comments.
I love the horse's - they are so beautiful!
Seeing the bears is always a great treat too~
Tom turnkeys have the feather like beards and all of them have the red looking flap that is called a waddle.
Thank you for posting your wonderful photo essay at Pretty Pictures.
