Connecticut Firefighter's Historical Society Fire Museum

Yesterday I visited the Fire Museum in my town.  The museum is housed in a retired 1901 firehouse.   The firehouse had a two lane bowling alley in the basement.  The firemen used to have tournaments there.   The alley wasn't part of the exhibit but they did have a pin in one of the display cases.

Here are a few shots from my visit.

 

 

What I found interesting is during the winter months runners were added to the horsedrawn fire engines to turn them into sleighs.   Rollers were added to the floor to make it easier to move the engine in and out of the fire house.   One of the rollers was exposed in the museum.  Once winter was over the runners were removed, the rollers were covered up.

mostly for fun. The trip I took to California in March was for work but I added a little fun on the end. I was in New York last week for work and was hoping to have some fun time in the city but the weather was lousy and I didn't want to get stuck somewhere and not be able to make it back to the train station so I just came straight home.
