Weekend Chew & Stew - Saturday, July 18 & Sunday, July 19, 2009
by Marilyn Mackenzie
Whether you agree with the concept or not, everyone needs to be able to vent from time to time. That's especially true if you're one of the many who suffer from an invisible illness. We have whines and rants about pains, medical professionals and prescriptions, just to name a few. Perhaps our families listen; perhaps they don't. Even if they do, they get tired of our complaining, even if they claim to understand our struggles. Or if they don't get tired of our "negative energy" we think they do or will.
Do you need to rant about something? Tell us about it.
Do you have some celebration or victory youneed to share? This is the place.
What's happening in your world today? Are you grumpy about something? Or so angry you could spit? Tell it here. Here at the Daily Whine & Shine , it's acceptable to rant, vent, complain, stomp your feet, throw a tantrum, and shout, "Oh shuckie darn!"
Wait! Don't go away! Do you have some good news to share? Great. This is the place for that as well. If you're celebrating, dancing, and yelling, "Yippee Skippy!" please share. Sometimes knowing about someone else's happiness gives us a bit of hope for ourselves.
Whether you're shouting, "Oh shuckie darn!" or yelling, "Yippee skippy!" - this is the place to be. Pull up a rocking chair, and let's talk about it.
Now, let's celebrate!!!

Food for Thought:
Never spend your money before you have it. ~ Thomas Jefferson (Our government would be wise to follow that one, as would each of us.)
Never trouble another for what you can do yourself. ~ Thomas Jefferson (I wonder if he meant to never trouble the government for what you can do yourself also.)
Those who seek absolute power, even though they seek it to do what they regard as good, are simply demanding the right to enforce their own version of heaven on earth. And let me remind you, they are the very ones who always create the most hellish tyrannies. Absolute power does corrupt, and those who seek it must be suspect and must be opposed. ~ Barry Goldwater
A nation of sheep will beget a government of wolves. ~ Edward R. Murrow
The only sure bulwark of continuing liberty is a government strong enough to protect the interests of the people, and a people strong enough and well enough informed to maintain its sovereign control over the government. ~ Franklin Delano Roosevelt
It was once said that the moral test of Government is how that Government treats those who are in the dawn of life, the children; those who are in the twilight of life, the elderly; and those who are in the shadows of life, the sick, the needy and the handicapped. ~ Hubert H. Humphrey
The government is merely a servant -- merely a temporary servant; it cannot be its prerogative to determine what is right and what is wrong, and decide who is a patriot and who isn't. Its function is to obey orders, not originate them. ~ Mark Twain
A wise and frugal government, which shall leave men free to regulate their own pursuits of industry and improvement, and shall not take from the mouth of labor and bread it has earned -- this is the sum of good government. ~ Thomas Jefferson
A government big enough to giveyou everything you want, is strong enough to take everything you have. ~ Thomas Jefferson (Note: Some argue that Jefferson never said this. Perhaps he did not. But the quote has been used by politicians for years and always attributed to Jefferson. And it is one that Harold Zieger, the man from East Germany who speaks at Tea Party rallies and warns about the signs that a government is taking too much control of our lives uses in each of his speeches. Wherever this wisdom originated, it is still wisdom.)

Shine: Heartburn free still! Ever since Wednesday night when I took the first pill I've been heartburn free and it is wonderful. I am able to eat what I want without pain. My appetite is slowing down a bit, which is nice since I am 28 weeks pregnant and have already gained 32 lbs. If I do the same as I did last time with my first pregnancy, I probably won't gain anymore for the rest of the pregnancy - I gained and lost for the rest of the third trimester - just couldn't eat so much because there wasn't enough room.
Hubby graduates on Monday and has vacation that same week :) We won't have money until Friday but we should do okay until then.
Whine: The house is getting messy and I have no energy to clean or do anything. I am tired all the time and I have so much to accomplish, yet all I want to do is sit here at the computer and mess around. I did, however, clean quite a bit last night but got to bed really late! Leg cramps are really painful and even when they are not so bad at night, the whole next day it hurts to walk or move my leg because of the cramps.
Shine: In a little bit, my mom and I are going out to a hamburger fry that is also a fundraiser for a good cause. We don't know which good cause yet, but we do know that we get a yummy burger and a can of pop for a small amount of money. I can't remember if it's $1.50 apiece or $2.00 apiece. Half of money collect goes to Harvest Market that provides the food, grill, etc. The other half goes to the good cause!
My sweet hubby said that if they don't get my problem fixed, he'll get me a gift card for my birthday. :)
I'm excited for you too.
Robbie is sick - or more accurately he has a fever but no other symptoms. His temp last night was a high of 103.1 and today has been lower. It is slowly climbing this evening, but I still have no idea why he is running the temp as he has nothing else going on.
Today has been a strangely slow paced relaxed day - I woke late because I was up quite a bit with Robbie just not able to sleep. He was fussy, but not complaining of any pain or discomfort. Then we skipped church because I don't want others to get sick if Rob has something nasty going on that just hasn't shown itself. We read books, and he played with his toys. He wanted blueberry muffins so I made those and we just puttered. Then hubby started his routine and suggested that I take Rob outside while the weather was still good. Robbie played in the dirt with his trucks and garden spade. Then we made lunch and hubby left for work. Since then we have been reading books and puttering more. Nothing major getting done today, but not being totally lazy either. Hubby works one more day and then his vacation starts. He graduates with his B.A. is psychology on Monday and then he has to get his transcripts and back to school he will go to work on his M.A. in General Psychology before switching to his PhD in Clinical. So much going on, yet today just feels wistful and strange - almost dream like...
