Walter Cronkite is dead and his like will never be seen again. Sadly this is true as the personalities reading the news on televison today will not come close to being his equal. Honesty and accuracy are not a necessity anymore as long as the ratings are high enoughi We live in an age of pundits and half truths. We are fed one liners called teasers to bait us into wathing the news. He loved the news and would go to any length out of respect for the viewer to make sure we got an accuate and truthful assesment of the story. Now days we have 24 hours a day to get the story right and fail to do so. Cronkite would never intensionly slant a story. His sense of honor would never let him to that. He was a gentleman and a great man. For those of us who care more about the news than a news personality there is still the BBC and PBS. But sadly Fox and CNN fail their responsiblity daily. But is us the viewer who gave rise to their brand of news reporting. I would love to use the word jouranlist but I cant when it comes to the 24 hour news media . Over the last couple of weeks the word "Icon" has been tossed about. Tonight I know what the meaning of that word is in my life as I pause to say goodbye to Mr. Cronkite. He was and will remain always an original. We trusted him. A void has been created than will never be filled. |
