The Vacant Lot.......

by my Mom's house fascinates me, as it is ever changing.  I've been stopping by the lot about once a week to photograph wildflowers, weeds, and anything else I can find.

I was really surprised when I stopped today to see the teasel with flowers on it.  I had no clue it even got flowers on it.  The bees were really enjoying it!

I also found a HUGE dandelion type flower that had gone to seed. I don't think it could be a dandelion as it was, at least, 4 inches wide.  I've never seen a dandelion that big. (Thanks to GayLynn P. for identifying this as Goat's Beard.)

this is your new occupation...floral photographer.. you can make note cards and sell them. they are beautiful. I love the bee with the thistle. and "a view from the top, of the "make a wish" weed.

I don't think we have Teasel here, if we do I have never seen it. I find it rather interesting. The flowers are a beautiful lavender color but the plant itself has so much texture. Gorgeous photos!

I've never seen teasel blooming, didn't know they did, but it sure adds another layer of texture and contrast with the prickly plant. I especially like the photo of the bumbler on the teasel. I suspect that the giant dandelion is goats beard. It looks very much like the dandelion except much larger and the leaves are different.

Thank you so much for identifying the dandelion type plant......I Googled it and I'm certain that's what it is. They had a photo of it before it goes to seed and I remember seeing those yellow flowers in the lot earlier in the summer. I appreciate you sharing your knowledge of flowers with me!

You're welcome. We don't have Goats Beard here, but it's in Montana and I photographed it when I was there. Then I had to find out what it was. I think my photos of it are in my Montana album.
