A year or so ago, I joined a fellow writer friend in a dream he had. I became a member of his organization, backing his dream, because I believed it to be a great poetic project he was...still is...trying to accomplish. Jason & I have remained in constant contact over this time, in email, and in social networks.
Jason's dream may soon be realized, and in the process, a wee dream of mine may too. My poem, "Colors O' The US of A" is one he accepted for an anthology he's putting together...and just maybe I'll be published with him one day. If not, I've the gift of a new friend in Jason & we've shared a dream!
The funny thing is that just seeing my name on his site as his writer from Ohio...I already feel like I've been published. Just thought I'd share that chuckle with you!
Colors O' The US of A
Born ‘n’ bred ‘neath the colors
O’ the red ‘n’ white ‘n’ blue display
Tis from deep within my heart
That I applaud the freedoms o’ my US of A!
I hear my husband's cries
Each ‘n ev’ry designated veterans day
Mourning friends dead ‘n’ alive
Who gave their best for our US of A!
I’ve watched the nightmare
On a friend’s face that he couldn’t chase away
And yet when he sees Old Glory
His mind stands proud ‘n’ tall to bless his US of A!
The protesters o’ the world
Create frenzy to hold our patriotism at bay
And it’s in spite o’ the likes o’ them
That I’ll ne’er desert the uniforms o’ the US of A!
For the leaders o’ the free
I’ll kneel upon my knees in a whisper ‘n’ pray
Asking my God to guide their decisions
In preserving this nation, the grand ol' US of A!
