Late last week, Fran asked me if we could ride down the Cape to Eldreds, Appraisers and Auctioneers of Fine Antiques and Collectibles in Dennis, Massachusetts. Fran had some antiques as well as large oil paintings she wanted appraised and if acceptable, put in their catalog. The owners, Susan and John Schofield were parents of Kathryn, Zach's good friend from Falmouth Academy. In 2001, we had brought Kathryn with us to Ireland for three weeks as a graduation present.
We decided we would leave early Tuesday morning, do our business at Eldred's and then go on to Provincetown and stay the night. Arriving at Eldreds, Susan and John greeted us and despite their busy schedule agreed to look over Fran's "treasures". They were really excited with her framed pictures, silverware, and pottery from Persia. After an hour, knowing they had to do some research on some of the "collectibles", they sent us to The Sesuit Cafe for lunch. We enjoyed lobster rolls overlooking Sesuit Point.

After a lovely lunch by the sea, we returned to Eldreds, where Fran received some exciting news. John was going to accept many of Fran's collectibles for his auctions. After signing an agreement, business done, we were free to wander.
Our second stop was also in Dennis at my favorite pottery place, Scargo Pottery and Art Gallery. Founded in 1952 by Harry Holl, Scargo Pottery is a family business including the founder, Harry Holl and his four daughters. Feast your eyes on these beautiful hand made pieces.

The grounds surrounding the Gallery are gorgeous.

I love the unique windows in this house.

Leaving Scargo, we passed the old familiar windmill in Eastham.....

and soon enough we were at the very tip of Cape Cod in Provincetown.

It was now 4 in the afternoon and Fran and I decided that our first priority was to secure a bed for the evening. We were in luck, at The Provincetown Inn we obtained the last available room.

Our room is on the second floor...the one with the door open.

From our deck, we could look north and see Provincetown Harbour.

After a quick swim in the pool to cool off, we were ready to explore our new surroundings.

At the pool, I had heard that the "Red Inn" restaurant down the beach just a short way had fabulous food...so we decided we must check that out.

We were also intrigued by this beautiful home (?) overlooking the harbour. But you will have to come back for a tour of this "elegant lady".

We have not been to P town for a long time, might take the fast boat one of these days. Or years.
You really should get up my way sometime.
(Or... could you bring it closer to the middle of the country? I'd appreciate it!)
I actually lived the first 10-ish years of my life in the east-ish (MA, NY, then PA). Got to see Mystic Seaport on a school field trip, which was way cool; too bad I had the photography skills of a bowl of jello.
