Why Sarah Palin is resigning

OK.  This is dump on Sarah Palin week, but I'm not going to...yet.

As a semi-disclaimer, I joined "Move-On" when they first began and the world had to "move-n" from Bill Clinton's blow jobs in the Oval Office.

They have since become a PAC that sometimes moves beyond a simple "let's get on with it."

Well, now we know why Sarah Palin is quitting as governor of Alaska.

In a Washington Post column, she just announced her new focus: killing our chance to build a clean energy economy, starting with the energy bill currently in Congress.1

Her op-ed is a marvel of misinformation and outright lies. Just like conservatives in Congress, Palin is trotting out the "energy taxes" scare tactic, and arguing instead for more drilling and more dirty coal. This bill already has too many giveaways to Big Coal and Big Oil, but it's still not enough for Palin.2

As ridiculous as Sarah Palin's lies are, they're getting attention, and they're a real threat to clean energy. If we can raise $125,000 today, we'll run a rapid response ad to counter these lies and stop Palin's attack.

This is the same Sarah Palin who doesn't believe climate change is caused by humans.3 The same Sarah Palin who is obsessed with drilling for oil in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge. And the same Sarah Palin who's looking for controversial issues to launch a 2012 presidential bid.

Now she's positioning herself as the face of the conservative attack against clean energy, against the Clean Air Act—even against the creation of millions of new jobs in solar and wind.4

But wind and solar create more than twice as many jobs as coal and oil.5 Clean energy is the only way to make America's economy competitive in the 21st century.

The truth is we need a stronger energy bill in the Senate to combat our economic and climate crisis, but Sarah Palin's lies could sink our hopes for a clean energy economy.

She can now take as much money from big oil and coal as she wants and not have to worry about those pesky ethics complaints

So it appears that Palin is becoming a lobbyist for the oil industry. Bigger money in that than in being governor. And of course there is the book that she is writing and the speaking fees. Like her grandson's father said, Palin wants to be able to capitalize on her new-found fame.

Scot, there is nothing wrong with making money--I agree. But we have been led to believe, by Palin and her PR people that she is doing it only for her family. It is misleading.

I like Palin as a Person, I'm not sure how I feel about her as a politician anymore.
I was wondering if this was her intent, lobbying, when she resigned, but I truly thought she was doing it for the good of her family.....but then again I wonder.

I am truly wondering if there is such a thing as an 'honest' politician.

What makes me sick is that she is now whoring herself out to the fossil fuel industry, instead of just being influenced by their campaign contributions, she's now going directly to the teat,and recycling known lies, using her celebrity, to benefit those interests.

What do you expect from the Republican Party's finest, and Ted Steven's brightest (says something) protege? It's typical, go for the green, and let humanity hang. Shortsighted? What else is new with that crowd?

I truly regret now voting for the McCain/Palin Ticket
I don't regret NOT voting for Bama/Biden ticket.

I think next election I'll just not vote.
Well, Mooch, that's an option, but not a very effective one. Is Obama spending us further into debt doing us any good? Well, it depends on your perspective. One thought is that though his efforts aren't getting us out of a recession, they very well may be keeping us out of a depression. No one can really say, but I will say I believe as one of the talking heads said the other day, it is too little too late to spur recovery, but may well be the reason we aren't sitting at the bottom yet. At this stage of the great depression, Hoover did worse than nothing, and we should be able to see where that led. It depends entirely on your economic theory preference whether or not you believe that, but I think the main alternative theory has been thoroughly discredited over the span of the last eight years. Of course, there are many die hards that will disagree. Your mileage may vary.
Why of course. That was the sole reason I made the comment, to amuse you, Scott. Glad I could give you a chuckle. You folks have so little to smile about, these days, I suppose.

I'm not dumping either....  I'm still trying to figure out why the Dems seem so preoccupied with discrediting her... what has them scared?  Why do they put so much tiime and energy into trying to showcase her faults.  If they didn't feel threatened, they wouldn't behave this way.   I'm not counting her out... thanks to the Dems!

More of a quitter when the kitchen gets too hot for her. That is her record.
Maybe because she lied her ass off about Democrats clear through the election process, Scott. And she most certainly did. I'm not a Democrat, but I sure appreciate the fact that they have more than enough reason to dislike the Lady.
I'm not a Democrat but it seems to me that nobody works harder than Palin at discrediting herself.

The fact that she dumped Alaska half way through her term says a lot about her. Would you vote for this woman who couldn't stand the pressure as governor of Alaska and was only mayor of Wasilla prior to that?

P.S. And there are also charges that she left office because she wanted to make money and capitalize on her new found fame after the election. Selling out for the money is not a good character trait for higher office. We have enough of those with this trait already.
Not related, Scott. Clinton is not the answer to every criticism of a Republican, though Lord knows you folks try.

What does it say about the American public's commitment to the environment when a quitter like this, out for money, can seriously affect energy policy?

Sarah is probably resigning for several reasons including money, leveraging her new found fame, relieving the stress of the office and bringing an end to the criticisms there, testing the waters for a presidential bid and possibly she wanted to try something different. I cannot believe that the Republicans will run with her in 2012 but if they do they are asking for failure in my opinion.
