Located in the Detroit Suburb of Dearborn, Michigan is The Henry Ford Museum and Greenfield Villiage. As David and I only had one day for this adventure, we chose the indoor part of the Henry Ford Museum and viewing the history that is stored there. Hopefully another time will come that we can visit Greenfield Villiage.
This a a Quote by Henry Ford about the museum:
I am collecting the history of our people as written into things their hands made and used.... When we are through, we shall have reproduced American life as lived, and that, I think, is the best way of preserving at least a part of our history and tradition
And there is a lot to see there. I have to break it down (like with the zoos I've visited) as there is so much to see and tell about. Truth is, even though we were there most of the day Saturday, we still didn't see everything.
The clock tower at the entrance of the museum

This is what a Modle T looks like in pieces!
I'm really glad they don't make them like this any more. I remember when I was a kid we had an old metal fan, unlike the newer plastic ones that are almost impossible to stick your fingers in, that my mom almost lost her thumb to.
Gotta love these antiques ... I'd kinda like to have the "bicycle" just as a decoration.

Some old machinery
I love this kitchen... I think it would be so cool to have modern appliances that looked like the old ones. I could actually see me in this kitchen
Old franklin stoves in various shapes/designs and sizes.

gas lamps from before electric bulbs.

Yeah, David had to drag me away from something LOL
I used to go there a lot when I was a kid. I should go visit it again next time I visit Detroit.

Talk about a blast from the past, you aced this one. Love it.
I've been to Greenfield Village, though not in years. I have never been to the Henry Ford Museum. Your photo essay is fabulous and makes me want to get there! Thanks for sharing, Nancy! =)
I remember taking my grandfather through these exhibits in the museum years ago. He didn't walk well, so we had him in a wheelchair. He kept pointing to additional exhibits and almost had me running to get the chair over there fast enough. He particularly liked the dissected Model T.
I believe it!! My hip was killing me by the time we left, but I didn't want to stop!
Wonderful pictures Nancy. It seems to be a very interesting place to visit.
Some of those gas lamps are just beautiful! The fans are absolutely cool, but I can see your point about the fingers. LOL. What an incredible museum!
I haven't been here in years
Interesting photos!
I think I lived in that house with the checkered floor. I love these photos as well. You are getting super at your work. :)
I've been - and would go again!
