Pastor Wiley Drake, a Southern Baptist pastor from Buena Park, California, says he is praying for Barack Obama's death.
He says his prayers request that God smite Obama "with—among other things—plagues, death, and eternal damnation."
He explained to Religion News Service: "That doesn’t mean I spend every waking hour praying for the death of the president. Of our prayers, 98 percent should be good prayers and 2 percent should be imprecatory."
"Imprecatory prayer" is a theological term for praying that bad things happen to bad people.
Pastor Drake's confession about his prayers for Barack Obama's death "came after Kansas abortionist George Tiller was gunned down in church. That killing, Drake said, was an answer to his prayers."

Loony tunes populate every corner of America.
I agree.
Isn't praying for someone's death a sin?
This pastor says it's ok according to the Bible!?
What bible?
Isn't that the same thing that the demons that caused the 9/11 say about their reasons behind their evil acts and the Koran.
I am a follower of Christ but no longer a member of any denomination. This is why....
That's kinda crazy. I didn't think we should pray for bad things to happen to anyone. Lest God be the Judge!!
Such level of hatred I can neither perceive nor understand... and this pastor still dares to call himself a Christian????
Blessings and best wishes - S.
Who continues to "ordain" this whack-o? He should be stripped of his ministry. He sounds more like a warlock than a minister.
Just what we need: Some radical right-wing, racial slurring nut to stand in front of a group of lambs who have lost their way and are pouring their faith into the "teachings" of this idiot.
'Southern Baptist pastor'
That is all that need be said. These folk didn't like the LBJ Civil Rights, the social liberals and all things in this country that are not based on what 'they' feel the Christian bible says. Who were the KKK in the South after all.
But one must remember there are over 20 million followers here.
Yup, we now a few generations of southern "DixieCons". These were people who were working class Democrats until Civil Rights. They quickly changed to being "led by the nose" Republicans based on their "Family Values"! It is interesting that in the South (outside of Florida) the answer to integration has been an amazing number of "private christian schools".
I am not a praying man, but if I were, I'd send a set of "imprecatory prayers" out targeting the Pastor Wiley Drake.
This guy should be arrested for attempted murder. Unless of course, there is no "power of prayer".
This guy is a wack job to say the least
as a Southern Baptist myself, I do not think this Pastor repersents ALL
Southern Baptists. I think it is wrong to pray for anyone to die.
We are not God and it is up to HIM who lives and who does not.
This is NOT Christian behavior he has interpreted the Bible to suit his own evil believes !
This pastor is obviously a very sick man.
How dare this person call himself a man of God?! It's an outrage, and his congregation should be getting rid of him!
I agree with Vivian. This IS NOT Christian behavior. I'll pray for him He is sick.
It is statements like this that turn people away from 'the faith' - be careful what you wish for
And I just bet the looneys of the GOP are praying along with him.
Sounds a lot like the evils that the Muslim Extremists live for.
It really does. Except if he was a Muslim instead of a Southern Baptist pastor, our government would lock him up as a possible terrorist and a threat to National security.
Sounds like this minister forgot, "...Thy will be done...".
This is not the first time Wiley Drake has gotten the attention of the media for "imprecatory prayers." He prayed for the death of two leaders of an organization I belong to...Americans United for Separation of Church and State (AU). The AU leaders asked the IRS to look into political activities of wacko Wiley. He was using his church to push right wing political candidates. That is a no-no for tax-exempt organizations. Drake was so upset by this that he called on God to kill them. It made quite a splash in the papers, which was exactly what he wanted. Ol' Wiley just loves to be in the news. Apparently his church members don't mind his antics. I hear he is very popular.
I wrote an article about this a year or so ago. Here is the link
Does this man actually head up a church, and, more importantly, how many members in this church call him their religious leader?
Sick. This is the problem with religion. It gives people license to justify so many horrendous things.
I do not believe that this sick man is alone. I believe many, many think like him. I am frightened of an assassination, causing our nation to crumble.

I'm a new member as of today. I am not shocked at all by the revs comments. But when the zealot's say these things openly, outside of their little circle, that is the amazing part. What is his end game?
I do't know what bible he is reading, but it certainly isn't the same one that my southern baptist minister-husband preaches from. Our Holy Bible commands us to pray for our leaders and to lift them up to our Father each day, as well as to obey the laws of the land. I may not always agree with Obama's politics, or anyone else's for that matter. But I do pray for them each day...and not for their death. This man is sick and goes against everything I have believed all my life.
This is not what the Southern Baptist Convention is asking of their churches/members.

What a twisted man. He calls himself a minister of God? The amazing thing isa that he will have followers...........People like him give a bad name to religion. Thank God he does not represent the God I love.
Maybe he needs to read a book written by someone who knows how to do more than just sit on a high horse and preach, and I think you know just the book I'm referring to. This person is a very good example of why I'd rather read the memoirs of someone who lived, than sit and listen to live "performances" of overinflated windbags.
Bible never forbids to pray negative but discourages it giving space for the devil to perform his part. Well, I feel the pastor may have reasons because even there Bible has advised "Judge not and you shall not be judged".
#1- yes, this guy is a mess.
#2- the whole concept of praying actually seems a bit weird to me. Here's the thing: God is supposedly all knowing. If he really is all knowing, does he need your input to do the right thing?
oh never mind.
it makes me wonder, am I killing the conversation with what I say? Or maybe did i come too late to the party.....
I always say doing evil in the name of God is the most shameful act.
That's all the explanation you need to have for this article.
Sounds like Obama/Soetoro/Obama's agenda for America, having been indoctrinated by treacherous souls like Saul Alinsky, Bill Ayers, etc. and brainwashed in racist Jeremiah Wright's haven of hatred for over 20 years.
The minister should realize that this abominable president usurper is merely a SYMPTOM of the spiritual sickness that afflicts our beloved Republic, and that it isn't enough for Emperor Obama, the fraud and foreigner, to die since our sinful people would simply choose another mass deceiver. We need to pray for the United States to die to our sins and return to the biblical God and live and prosper.
Your post was revelatory of a certain mindset. Thanks for that.
