why diabetics should pay close attention to their feet....
a few weeks ago my special friends bil hit his foot.... he is 62 years old and diabetic.....he had someone take him to the doctor.....he cannot drive because of an auto accident years ago that really messed up his thinking....
the doctor was checking his foot and noted really bad sores between two toes.....bad, black sores.....as the doctor was scraping away the black a bone fell out of the toe..... the doctor stopped, bandaged him up and told him to go to the wound center.....he had no feeling in this foot for a long time so he had not noticed the sores.....
at the wound center he was sent to the doctor who is a vascular surgeon..... the same one i see.... he has an excellent reputation.
on the first vist to the wound center there was a lot of scraping with discussion of amputation.....but first test had to be done..... the MAR showed an abdominal, 6mm, anneurism.....the doctors hope to be able to repair the anneurism....
the next week they cut off two toes at the wound center......more test were to be done....he was not due to go back to the wound center until the next week....that was on a thursday.....
on monday my friend checked out his bil's feet and found black skin on the bottom of his foot from the toes to the heel...... he called the docotrs office but the doctor was out of town..... his PA said he would see him..... the PA removed all the black skin.....there was no bleeding when the skin was cut off or when the toes were cut off.....
he was sent to the hospital and admitted.....as soon as all test are completed his leg will be amputated to just below the knee......
i tell you all this because it is so very important if you are diabetic to have your feet checked on a regular basis.....do not ignore even the smallest cut or sore...
the resident diabetic here has his feet checked by a podiatrist at least every three months.....
please, if you are diabetic take care of yourself.....i am very thankful that i am not diabetic....

It's very good advice......My husband is diabetic and I am always telling him about taking care of his feet. It is really important!
This is such very good advice. So very sorry to hear of this sad situation. =( I am diabetic and it scares me to death. Thinking of what all can happen. A friend of mine, 48 years old had his foot taken off this past year, because of being diabetic. I am always careful with cuts and sores.
You should always take care of yourself, even if you're not a diabetic. If you are one, you need to take even more care of yourself. Everything from your diet, weight, and your body inside and out. I've been a diabetic for 32 years (in Aug.) now and am in perfect health. I have check ups 3-4 times a year and my doc always tells me how impressed he is with me and my health. Makes me feel good about myself.
My grandma was a diabetic and lost several toes. Thanks to a stupid doctor taking a scab off and it gotten infected. Anywho, long story shot, my grandmother went to a nirsing home to learn to walk again than come back home. It wasn't the case. First she fell over some idot vistor sticking their feet out. Busted her head real good..caused her to black out with a feeling of floating. She healed from that. Than caught the flue which turned to amonia. She had a heart attack which caused her to stroke out and die.
how very tragic..... i am so sorry this happened to your grandmother...... grandmothers are very special and it is so hard when you lose yours....
Yes, it was very hard. As I just gave birth to my last child when this all started. She was not even a year old when my grandmother died. She loved my daughter alot, she reminded her of my mother when she was a baby. I mean don't get me wrong, she loved all her children but was really taken with my daughter the most.
