Fiery, beautiful and exotic are my criteria. Add scent, color and make it a carefree plant and it is a winner in my garden. So here you are - photos of my current top five favorite tropical flowers - blooming in my Florida garden - today.
Canna

Of course, my list of favorites is subject to change and it could have easily been my top twenty-five list, but it started raining:)
I love all my flowers and even some of the weeds in my garden.
My first Canna of the season - love the fiery colors.

I lost the tag, but it is a moschus malva,
in the rose and hibiscus family.
The flowers are larger than my hand.
Pretty in all shades of pink!

Next to it .....
Star Jasmin - love the scent and it's a no maintenance plant.

The Malva still resides in a pot for now,
but it can become a full size bush like a hibiscus.
Judging by the buds, I may see some opalescent pink flowers soon.

Close up of today's star Jasmin bloom.

The bougainvillea while tropical and colorful is a vigorous grower and requires cutting about every three months.
Nothing says hot climate like a bougainvillea.

Hanging out with the daisies.

Our puff ball tree is in full bloom - covered in cheery red blooms.

The pretty blooms feel soft to the touch.
It's impossible to walk past and not smile or stroke the little puffballs.

Thanks for looking my gather friends and everyone who reads my garden posts.
Have a great week!

Incredible beauty!!! :-)
Hugs and blessings - S.
Thanks, Rose. Your fabulous photo essay is featured today at Home Comfort
Natalie - THANK YOU so much for the feature - it is appreciated:)
Lovely shots, as always, Rose! I love the pink explosion you captured of the "Puffballs" and the pink and yellow Canna. I wish I had your green thumb, but I can enjoy your gorgeous garden view from my compter!
They are all gorgeous Rose, and you must definitely live in a tropical paradise:)
Pretty flowers
A great essay, Rose~
Beautiful shots! I have a similar Hibiscus and I was told that it is a Confederate Hibiscus. Anywho, they are easy to take cutting from to root and get more plants!
Thank you for posting your photo essay at Pretty Pictures.
Kat - that's good to know, my friend Jackie has been wanting one of these and I thought I actually killed it last summer, but it made a miraculeous comeback.
I meant to look it up on line and I guess I should if I am going to post photos of it.:)
I will admire your beautiful blooms and leave the growing to you and my daughter and daughter in law. I kill even the heartiest of blooms...Sigh...LOL
There are a couple you just plant and ignore. I'll post them too, one of these days.
wow! those photos look like paintings!!
Those puffballs are too cool... I want a tree like that! And I love that canna... wonderful coloration!
We sell bougainvillea where I work... get a lot of questions about it!
the canas & puff ball are great. love the colors. never heard of a puff ball tree before!! :)
I want to make a special trip to Florida just so I can see your lovely garden. I wish I could talk DH into going. Maybe next year, I sure hope so. Beautiful photo essay as always Rose.
Thanks so much for sharing with my group.
Oh Nana - I can't wait to show you, you'll like the secret garden and the gazebo by the fountain. Then we can talk a garden walk together:)We'd love to have you both come by - spring is best.
What a garden ! Your top 5 picks are all beauties ,Rose.
Mr. Phil - thank you so much.
Beautiful flower photos, Rose! Thanks for sharing them with us!
How magnificent!
Oh my, these are just gorgeous, Rose. That first one is a knock-out.
Thank you, Elizabeth. It's always nice to see your garden too, alas, I can't grow what you can and vice versa.
Gorgeous flowers! You remind me so much of myself. I'll take five shots of the same flower, from different angles, then try to decide which one to post. I love the puff ball tree! I've never seen one of those before.
If I get the opportunity (and we're hoping) to retire to Florida, you'll have to help me adapt my gardening skills to your climate.
I tell you Ina it's a whole new world. I had a really nice garden in Germany with herbs and roses and all kinds of flowering bushes - forget it - almost nothing I knew grows or applies in Florida.
.... and the seasons are topsy-turvy too. It's like learning to garden all over again.
I am in awe of your wonderful garden. so many lovely colors, textures, smells...must be a little slice of happiness every time you look out at your yard or take a stroll....
I love the unique things you have. The puff ball tree...I want one, but it probably wouldn't grow here. I love the purple with the yellow. You've made me wonder about our hibiscus. We have a new one this year that is potted, and it is a regular hibiscus. But, we have huge pink ones that bloom later in the summer, and the blooms are bigger than a dinner plate. They don't have to be brought inside like our potted one. I wonder if they are like your pink plant above???
These are stunning! I can feel your love for flowers in these photographs.
