I went and saw the widely talked about "The Hangover" over the weekend. No doubt, it was very funny and had lost of memorable one liners for future movie quoters. Particularly, I thought the guy who played Alan was hilarious, and I was already a fan of Ed Helms from the Office. So, if you want a good laugh, I highly recommend it.
However, here's my issue. I think movies like The Hangover and so many more like it are creating a serious lie that permeates the minds of the men in our society. The same message is repeated over and over again to our youth, "AVOID RESPONSIBILITY AT ALL COSTS." Unfortunately for our communities, cities, states and nations, the message is succeeding. Subpoints of the message include things like this:
- Marriage is evil
- Kids are a nuisance
- Jobs are a pain
- Live for the weekend
- Your Life ends when you get married
- Promiscuous sex is the best kind
- Live for yourself
- Life is about you
Bull crap. This is all a bunch of bull crap. The problem is, men believe it. They now fear anything that has to do with growing a pair and being a man...say....like raising a family. So, the world of children's lunch boxes and Ben 10 party supplies scares the crap out of them. They'd rather be out at the bar then even thinking about reading to their kids. And if this does end up happening one day, it's a defeat. I hate this message!
Men, you were created in the image and likeness of God, the King of the Universe. You were given a task to have dominion over all the earth, to fill and subdue it. You were given a wife and the way to fill the earth was by having kids and training them in wisdom. Ok, we screwed up. We rebelled against God, and we love to live in our sin. But you know what? We've been given access back to the Garden through Jesus. We have new life, and a new purpose to make order out of chaos. This is the Kingdom of God. This is what we should be pursuing, not weekends in Vegas! Manhood is living out the life that God intended you to live, not your own.
Yeah, I know this offends 99% of you out there, but someone needs to say it.

Me being a dad to 6 kids doesn't get scared away from all the fun family stuff or being called by the principal while I am sleeping because I worked night shift the night before. I even get on the kiddie rides at Discovery Kingdom with my 3 year old.
Very true article for a lot of men. I see it all the time working in a blue collar job.
