I'm packing to go to the other side of Missouri to stay with my sister Nancy while her husband, Ronnie, has back surgery. Nancy is in fourth stage brain cancer. The tumor is pressing on places that make her left side impaired. She can barely walk but has a new leg brace that's helping a bit. Her cancer began as breast cancer. Her brain cancer is breast cancer that metastasized. Please, do your self exams and mammograms!
Nancy called a bit ago and while she is naturally concerned about Ronnie's surgery, she's also excited that she and I will be spending at least a week together. I'm looking forward to it, also. Since our Mom passed away in December we've just seen each other for about four hours. We have lots to talk about; lots of things we need to say.

Our Topsy Turvy Tomato Thing is doing great. The vine we planted in it a week ago is at least twice the size it was and easily has doubled its leaves. It's also blooming. I'm betting that by the time I come home there will be baby tomatoes on it.

Our pregnant onion plant, which is fifteen years old, is cranking out some more offspring. Those little round bumps on the bulbs develop into tiny bulbs that can be planted for more pregnant onion plants. I've never met anyone else around here with a pregnant onion, but on the internet there are many.

For the first time in years I'm growing some of our flowers from seeds. I'm so proud of the dwarf zinnias!

On Thursday we went to our friend Sharon's for a cookout. Her son Michael, a veteran of three tours in Iraq, was home for a few days on leave. He, his wife Andrea and baby Drew were at the cookout. Everyone had lots of fun and a ton of food.

Here's our godson Carson showing me that the hammock won't throw me into the river. I still didn't try it.

Here's a genuine Missouri Potato Gun. Usually in Fall, just after school starts, potato gun fights break out in downtown Hannibal on a nightly basis. The boys ran out of potatoes so used eggs instead.
I'll be checking in from Nancy's when I can. She just got a new desktop and wants me to teach her more about it. Sounds like the blind leading the blind to me.
Happy Summer!

I hope you have a wonderful visit and when you get home it might be time for fried green tomatoes.
Enjoy your visit Vicky...
Your plants are looking great. I'm glad you're getting a chance to spend some time with your sister, but sorry to hear of their health problems. :( Life sucks sometimes.
it does so - but it's a hell of a lot better than the alternative, innit?
Yup.
have a wonderful time together.... I hope you enjoy every minute of each other's company.
I meant to ask my mom how her upside down tomato thing did last year... forgot!
i'm glad you are going to get to spend time with your sister. great photos. never heard of a pregnant onion before.
Have a nice visit with your sis. My aunt died earlier this year of breast cancer that came back in her brain.
This time with your sister is such a blessing. Get silly. Like I have to tell you that.
I hope you have a great visit with your sister. I'm going to have to do some research on the pregnant onion.
Have a great time. My sister had breast cancer and so far, she is getting good reports. I hope it never comes back.
I hope your sister Nancy and hubby Ronnie recover fully, Vicky. I will have a quiet word with Big G. about them.
Quite a bit of news, girl. I'm so glad you will get to spend quality time with your sister. Nothing beats good sisterly conversations.
Your week sounded wonderful...gotta love cook-outs...but really, you should have tried that hammock...nice way to cool off.
Vicky, I just know you are gonna have a wonderful stay with your sister. I wish I could be a fly on the wall and listen to the stories you tell.
Have a safe trip. I hope you get to spend lots of quality time with your sister.
I hope you and your sister can tell each other everything you need and want to during your visit.
I'll miss you around here, as I'm sure you will be so busy catching up with your sister. I'm really glad you have this time together. I have never seen a potato gun, and it actually looks pretty scary. I bet you could hurt someone with that thing!
Dwarf zinnia? I just planted some seeds this year, too. I planted what look to be exactly the same thing, only my seed pack says it's a "Malva". (I could really go into Jerry Seinfeld mode, here!)
I hope your visit with Nancy is blessed. Fill your coffers, girlfriend.
Ooh the potato gun calls for its own photo essay, don't you think?
I hope your trip is full of joy. :-)
WOw, so much going on at your end. Glad you'll be able to spend some quality time with your sis, but sad for the reason you'll be there.
I've always wondered what those guns looked like. I've only heard stories. What a great photo essay!
I'm so far behind in my commenting! I apologize, Vicky. Have safe travels and make the most of your time.
