Some of my connections post wonderful photos and videos of crocodiles and alligators. They are awesome but very scary creatures. I have nothing to worry about though because I live and hike in Ohio. Right? Well maybe not. Seems we now have an alligator right here in central Ohio in the Tuscawarus River and some folks are saying more than one have been spotted. The Newcomerstown Sheriff is having quite a time trying to figure out how he's going to catch the alligator and keep the gawkers away who are throwing it meat from off of the bridge.
My son left for a canoe trip this morning, not on the Tuscawarus thankfully. He'll be canoeing down the Mohican but I still caught myself telling him to watch out for alligators.

Oh my I thought this was a joke at frist
No joke. It's true. Been on our local news stations.
Yikes!
very scary
now that is scary. Never thought their would ever been any in Ohio.
Yep it's true. The latest news is one has been captured. But the local residents say there's another one still on the loose.
Oh wow.
I would not doubt that there are gators as well as four eyed fish in the Scioto and Ohio. Especially the Scioto which has lovely sandbars, perfect for reptile basking :-/
I've heard that the Loch Ness Monster has cousins living in the Scioto :-)
Well, just hang on 'till January. Bye-bye gator.
Some idiot must have had illegal gators and released them.
That's what I suspect
I hope people will have enough sense to keep their kids away from the river. I've been through Newcomerstown on summer days and seen kids swimming under the bridge. I hope there is only one of them and they catch it soon. The river runs from the Portage Lakes area near Akron down south to the Muskingum so if you live near these waters I would suggest forgoing the swimming and fishing till for awhile.
Yikes, that's scary
O-h-h, my... too far to the north for alligators, don't you think? :-)
Blessings and best wishes - S.
Wow, who would have thought. It's worse you don't expect these creatures to be around.
That would be a little frustrating for the sherriff. I would not have a clue what to do. I would bring someone up from Florida probably.
That poor sherriff has got his hands full
we have more than enough alligators here in florida to supply Any other state or few,Kay, if folk would like them...heh heh...
Oh no, and people are feeding to.
People need to stop feeding it! We had one in the metro Atlanta area a couple of years ago. They caught it and took it somewhere to be released.
Yikes - not a good addition to the Ohio population.
Very interesting--off to look at the link.
I think Ohio has a lot more going on than we realized.
I've heard that "Nessie" has been sighted in Lake Erie.
