Last summer saw record flooding in my area and some of the buildings have never been rebuilt or reopened. Yesterday we had over 3 inches of rain so creeks and rivers are full. It makes one wonder if there could be another summer of flooding.
I have been on picture taking walks both during last summers flooda and this summer after one year. Just out my front door and down the hill a few hundred feet it looked like this last year.

Now it is just a memory.

Even this flooded apartment building is rennovated and once again occupied. I don't think I'd want to live there though.

A few blocks closer to the river there were six apartments destroyed by the floods of 2008.

They have been torn down and the cement put through crushers to be reused. The word is this area will not be built up again.
There are neighborhoods where houses have been torn down or are going to be demolished and the land repurposed.
Some businesses were torn down and rebuilt, like the Hardee's.

Some were just torn down and the land available for lease or sale.

Only
Only the sign is left on this corner.
Some businesses relocated to other parts of town or in the case of Slugger's to the town North of us.

Our local government has bought out properties and have yet to indicate what the property will be used for.
After the heavy rains of yesterday it makes me wonder if we will see flooding again down the line.

Yikes! Hope it doesn't happen again!
We had a flood here about a year and a half ago. They are not fun.
So often homes are built on the flood plain - where a river would overflow its banks naturally.
I feel bad for the people who had been living there. I'd bet the developers never told them of the flood risk.
It's sad isn't it and it opens a whole new train of thought for me. Why do cities flood?
Dams, concrete, no grassy areas to soak it in all of which are man made issues. The news always talked about the 100 year flood when refering to Fargo and the Red River.... well it's happened how many times in the last 20 years..... I think we need to regroup.
Cities flood, in part, because they're built where rivers would flood naturally. Yes, when people cement over large portions of land, there's less soil to absorb water.
People also build on barrier islands, then complain about hurricane damage.
I noticed the other day that the Yakima River is still very high for this time of year. Our flooding was in January
thanks sharing...
don't think I would want to live there.
Yikes that's not a good sign. Our water here has actually went down quite a bit. The last few years haven't been good
I hope it doesn't flood again, but I guess you never know. We had I-75 flood here one time....It was amazing how much everything was flooded...and for miles.
