I got the news that my son is doing well, and will be going home any time now. They discovered that there were no symptoms of anything other than a severe intestinal infection which they have been able to reduce with the medications they have been giving him. They think that the condition was aggravated by his acid reflux that he hasn't been treating properly.
Many thanks for all the support, prayers, well wishes and positive energy sent to us during this time!!! Thank you all so very much!!
HUGS AND BLESSINGS TO YOU ALL!!

Wonderful news Lisa. We share such gratitude with you.
Oh, yay! *hugs*
This is great news. I did not know your son was sick, but so glad he is doing better.
Your words about your son's illness rang a bell...
May I recommend you look up his symptoms on www.celiac.com. Reflux and digestive symptoms can be caused by gluten intolerance or celiac disease (exacerbated gluten intolerance), which are very common, though under-diagnosed. He may be helped by a gluten-free diet. Gluten is the protein component of wheat, rye and barley that can cause malabsorption and problems in any body system including the brain.
One of my sons had GERD (astro-esophageal reflux disease) before he got off gluten. He also had allergies, asthma, anemia, osteoporosis, abdominal pain, leg pains, headaches, and many other problems. He avoids gluten (there are many substitutes for gluten grains) is quite healthy now.
The blood test for celiac disease is not especially reliable. Enterolab.com has a combined genetic test and fecal antibody test that are supposed to be quite definitive for gluten intolerance and celiac.
It is very typical for symptoms to wax and wane until one gets completely off gluten, if intolerant or celiac.
That is excellent news, Lisa.
I agree with Alison that it is worth investigating whether gluten is the culprit behind your son's issues.
