A photo tour of tropical plants and flowers - come see the tropical flower beauties in my Florida garden. The plants are all thriving in this sauna called summer in Florida. I'm withering in the heat, but I ventured out with my camera this morning right after the rain.
Greeting us right by the garden gate is this fiery bloom.
It's a dwarf royal poinciana variety -
it produces flowers all summer long into fall.

Isn't it stunning? Like an explosion of fiery oranges and bright yellows.

It loves the heat and will freeze in the cold.
See the little green bug in the flower? Those guys are all over the garden, apparently they like to munch on leaves.
I garden organically, so unless he is a real menace I don't even hunt and destroy.

The pretty blue plumbago loves the steamy summer heat too.
I have an entire row of bushes planted around our seating area which need no attention whatsoever.
The bushes can get to six foot tall.

Here is one of my favorites - my jasmine tree, it will get 12 feet tall.
The scent is slightly spicy, the more it rains the more it blooms.
The dark green leathery thick leaves are a nice backdrop to the white flower clusters and the bees love it too.

A blackberry lily - I love the markings - they look so exotic.

Over in the veggie garden, the marigold self seeded itself in the tomato pot and now I have a whole pot of gold - marigold that is. I know it's not a tropical flower, but hey - it's pretty:)

Here is a shot of my white wedding hibiscus.
The blooms look like Frangipani, but this is a tall and very slim plant, never wider than a foot or two. (will get up to ten feet tall.) Another easy care plant which flowers profusely all summer long.

The crepe myrtles are all in full bloom. I forgot to photograph the pink and lavender ones we have. I'll post some in my photo gallery later.
Delicious scent, slightly sweet, slightly perfumed, but flowery fresh - not heavy.

No open blooms here, but you can see the pink buds of a moschus malva. The blooms are hot pink and huge, the size of your hand.

I do need to get up early one morning next week to weed. It's too hot during the day for me to work in the garden.
As you can see, one of my gargoyles, (hell dog), is about to be smothered by weeds.

Our neighbor has a pretty tropical hibiscus - don't you agree?

A wild vine on our fence - I usually let it grow, because I like the yellow flowers.
The rain made it almost translucent.

Oh - and look, here is a pretty garden visitor - just resting on a leaf.
I wonder what kind of butterfly he is?

That brings us back to the beginning to that gorgeous fiery beauty.

But, I still have a couple more tropical flowers to share with you.
Frangipani or Plumeria - you know, the Lei flower of Hawaii.

They exude a lovely scent in the evening.

We have several ixorias blooming everywhere - they enjoy the rain too, especially since we never water them due to the Florida draught - water restrictions.
In this picture, you can see the outline of my garden arch
a new garden addition this year.

One of today's Hibiscus blooms. A tropical bush, carefree and evergreen, delighting us with new flowers every day.
I've noticed it has three cycles when it blooms the most - in Jan/Feb and then in June/July and again in Sep/Oct.

It's getting hot, I'll be heading in for a cool drink - thanks for looking!
I hope you have enjoyed your photo tour of my tropical garden!
Have a wonderful weekend everyone!

Your garden is beautiful! By the time I get all of my plants settled in, we'll be moving!
Oh no, I hope you are moving to a place where you can garden and take some plants with you. Starting over isn't just time consuming it is expensive too. My sympathies - and good luck in your move April!
awesome photos that blackberry lily is so neat looking !
Wonderful pictures Rose, you make me ALMOST want to live in the south again...but I think I would rather live in Costa Rica...the land of eternal spring!
For the climate I'd like Hawaii best (never having been in Costa Rica I can't compare) but I'd love to live in Washington State in the Summer and in Florida only in the winter.
I love this! Such unusual and colorful blooms!
What fabulous colors! I love your jasmine tree, too, the fragrance must be intoxicating.
Rose, these flowers are glorious. You must live in a true paradise. Georgia O'Keeffe would go bananas! Thanks for the tour.
You have some real beauties in your garden Rose! The poinciana blooms remind me of butterflies.
Thank you for posting your photo at Pretty Pictures.
I think they all are gorgeous but it takes a good photographer to make people Oooo-Ahhh over the beauty. You truly achieved that!
Thanks, Gul:)
Pretty flowers and plants. You have some wonderful shots here.
What a great place. I think I'm going to start hanging out at your place!
Rose I absolutely love that dwarf poinciana, and it is really interesting how it has two colors. I almost killed the tiny poinciana we have growing, because I had it in the sun when the temps reached about 100F. It is now back in the shade, where it seems to be thriving.
what a beautiful garden. I like the blue flowers.
You have the most exotic garden I've ever seen, always a delight and sure to make me smile. Thos dwarf poinciana blooms are gorgeous. I've never seen them anywhere before.
Thanks so much for sharing with my group.
The colors are so much more vibrant and brilliant and the specimens so much more diverse than what we experience up north.
A walk through your garden is like a walk through paradise! Thank you, Rose, for sending us this lovely photo essay. We are featuring it today at Home Comfort
