I avoided all media coverage of Michael Jackson. Hubby loves to watch the news and last night I finally saw some of the tidbits from the memorial. I was particularly touched by Brooke Shields' discussion of her youthful relationship with Jackson.
It was rather sweet how these two young stars, already so exploited, formed such a solid friendship. It made me think better of Brooke, who I often considered rather dizzy.
My friend just sent a Brooke quote to me, reminding me that Brooke is rather dizzy despite her touching statements about Jackson.
"Smoking kills. If you're killed, you've lost a very important part of your life."
Oh my. I guess in her defense, it seems she was around 16 years old when she participated in this anti-smoking campaign. Or is she deeper than she appears, referring to eternal life? Much like anything else, it's all in the interpretation...

She went to Harvard, didn't she ???
She wanted to go to Harvard but wound up at Princeton thanks to her overbearing mother...
Is there anyone on the planet who HASN'T had a ditzy moment? Or a slip of the tongue? No one is perfect and if we expect people to be perfect we will live in constant disappointment.
Heaven knows I've had a million dizzy moments and don't necessarily consider it a fault :)
I love her for her films as I dont usually want to know what is going on in actors and actresses' lives. I guess it suits me.
Thanks for the article. So cool
I watched the memorial from beginning to end......I cried throughout (and even found myself sobbing in places).......it was the most incredible, spiritual memorial I've ever seen. I learned many things about Michael Jackson I'd never known previously and had no idea the extent of his overly generous giving to countless charities. I think, however, what I was left with following the song, "We Are the World," is that if each of us, as human beings would do something kind/considerate/helpful to help someone else, we can ALL make this a better world.
I caught some of Brooke at Jackson's memorial on the am news the other day while waiting for the weather. She choked me up a bit, but what really choked me up was when Jackson's daughter spoke about how her dad was the best dad in the whole world and she loved him. No matter what we think of him, he was a Dad and wil be greatly missed by his children.
I'm glad no one follows me around to quote what I've said. I'd die of embarrassment, I know.
Have you noticed how many commercials Brooke Shields has been doing lately? We fast forward through commercials, but I have noticed her appearing in different products.
extending a Helping Hand
I've never been a big fan of Brooke Shields, but must admit I found her speech to be heartfelt and heartbreaking. I think she really knew him well and cherished their friendship. Very sad.
so sad
i saw her also it was so sad
i forgot on some of the post to say HH
She was very upset and I did feel sorry for her. My opinion is I think it is very hard for some people in their postion so it is neat to see that they are just like us. They have feelings and they cry too. I dont think Michael Jackson was a God but no matter what he did in life he was still human and he was someone's son and he was loved
