I don't know if this has reached national news or if it is only on our local news but employees of an Illinois cemetary have been digging up bodies and piling up.
Apparently they are taking in money for new grave plots but instead of burying the newly dead in new plots they are instead burying them in plots where people have already been buried. They are just removing the bodies, and busting up the coffins and headstones in the process. Someone discovered the bodies.
They are doing this too old graves that no one visits any more, thinking that probably no one would notice.
How sick is this really? It really makes me sick and angry. How greedy do some people have to be?
I also have to add that now the FBI is involved and now they will have to go about figuring out who all of the bodies are, so they can notify families and rebury them. Can you imagine finding out a relative has been disturbed like that. Not to mention the financial ramifications of this.

Oh my gosh, that has got to be the lowest that one can go.......how DARE people to disturb the dead? That is an absolute outrage, and people had better start complaining about it.....even if people don't have family buried there, it still is important for them to speak up and be heard. Yes, it is vey, very sick. I hope that whoever is committing such despicable acts will be caught and prosecuted to the fullest extent possible.

That's just sick. I don't believe in disturbing the dead regardless how long they've been there. I don't like it when they go in the pyramids either.

In other cultures and locations where land for burial is dear, people are left in the ground until they are bones then the bones are removed to an ossuary. It's not odd at all. Many of the catacombs and passages beneath ancient cities (Rome for one) were constructed for that purpose. There are elaborate ossuaries all over the world including Jerusalem, Italy, France, and Spain. Roman Catholicism, Judism, Zorastrians and other religions all have customs for dealing with lack of burial space. Moving remains after a time and placing skeltons together in communal tombs is neither sacriligious nor shocking.
What is horrible about this story is that these people are reselling plots that were paid for by someone else and that the bodies are being moved without notification to relatives or proper procedures. However, depending on the contract for the plot purchase, the cemetary may have the right to do this. But there are still health regulations so that might be all they can be charged with.
I don't think these guys had any rituals or anything resembling honor intended here. There was room in the cemetary they did it out of pure greed and did not treat the dead with any respect what so ever. The officials and cemetary owners don't even know whose bodies were dug up.
