I hate to beat a dead horse (just a saying...I would never beat a live horse, let alone a dead one), but I have some new evidence that will dispel a long-held gather myth. I am not the only Barry Manilow fan. This myth isn't just on gather; most people in my hometown believe that I am the one member of the Barry Manilow International Fan Club. As you know, I take exception to that and like to provide evidence from time to time.
Here's the latest:
Michael Jackson was a Barry Manilow fan.
In 1984, when the American Music Awards, paid special tribute to Jackson following the success of "Thriller," Jackson requested that Manilow sing during the tribute. Once on stage, Manilow expressed that he was a fan of Jackon and that his medley would include no songs from "Thriller." (At the time, that was a good joke.) Anyway, he started with "Ben" and then moved into some of the early Jackson 5 work. Jackson and his friend, Brooke Shields, are seen in the front row enjoying the performance. Geez....I bet Jackson even got to meet Barry backstage!
You should be able to view it here.
Enjoy!

who'd a known
Interesting:)
oh my
That's pretty interesting. I didn't know.
Darlin', most people were Barry fans in 1984, but we moved on! You know that I am kidding right?
That was a low blow, gwen...
Don't take it hard, it came from a girl that listens to Cole Porter on an almost daily basis. He was long dead and buried before I was even born!
Ha ha ha.
OK I confess I love Barry Manilow. I have all his albums that I bought when I was a pre-teen.
Amanda I am so glad to know that I am not alone in the world.
Oh Lori....this is wonderful.
Let's join hands and sing "Daybreak." Seriously.
he's way after my time for liking a singer, I am a Sinatra fan, talk about being by yourself, and he's dead too. I liked some of the songs Barry sang, and sings, I wrote the Songs, he sings that all the time, he has been on Oprah recently, so you can't be the only one, lol.
Elise, Barry has a CD where he pays tribute to Sinatra. Maybe I could send you a copy?
I have watched nothing and heard little about him,.. lol.. I live in a lil box lately :)
I like Barry Manilow too!
That's three of us!
I didn't know that, interesting
THANKS FOR SHARING..
I thought of you while I was at my parents' this past week. They listen to a radio station that plays Menilow songs at least once an hour.
not really a fan, but I do enjoy several of his songs
You tell 'em. You are not the only Manilow fan. I am one as well. And my mother too. And I even got my husband to admit that Barry has a great voice.
I always knew he had good taste!
An aside: My oldest son found and framed an old BM LP for my best friend last week, as well as an old form to join the BMIFC....from back in the 70's. It was pretty neat!
I bet your friend loved it, Kimberly. That was very nice of your son. Tell your friend that you can go to manilow.com and visit "songs from the vault." Every month or so, he puts up a new, unreleased song.
I wouldn't call myself a fan, but I like several of his hits. "Looks Like We Made It"
"Ready to Take a Chance Again"
We have a channel here in Chattanooga called RTN retro t.v. and I have been watching some old shows that remind me of childhood. They show some retro t.v. commericals too.
Don't like him, Billy Joel, Rod Stewart or Elton John.
I have also never liked the Beatles. Just give me some Rolling Stones, Bonnie Raitt, Joe Cocker, Stevie Nicks and just about every Motown act except the Supremes.
Let's all do some James Brown "Yeah, I got the feelin....."
I love his songs. I guess that makes me a fan in a way but I like a lot of different people and kinds of music.
Granted there must be plenty of Barry fans...given that he has a show running in Vegas that seems to do pretty well. He's even got some good songs...if someone else sang them.
I'm going to go rate one of your articles a "1" for that comment. (just kidding)
Wow, that's true Barry-love. You are willing to turn into a troll to defend his honor. I am sure he would be flattered.
Thanks for posting your article to the Gather group, Bookin' (I think).
Michael knew great talent as well as being a great talent.... and Barry is one of the GREATEST talents I've ever heard!! I love his voice
I'm sure you're not the only Barry Manilow fan; he wouldn't be where he is today without lots of people just like you!
