At Michael Jackson's memorial service, Mariah Carey performed her rendition of the Jackson 5's I'll Be There with Trey Lorenz. As soon as she started singing, I thought to myself "Yikes!" Mariah Carey's outstanding voice was actually cracking. Trey Lorenz though stayed on pitch and sang as beautifully as he did on the record.
As Mariah Carey performed I figured something had to be wrong. She must be feeling emotional over MJ's passing. It ends up that was the case. Yesterday Mariah Carey Tweeted an apology: "Trying to sing today was basically impossible for me. I could barely keep myself from crying. I wasn't able to pull it together and really do it right, but I was literally choked up when I saw him there in front of me."
Mariah Carey is my favorite artists of all time. She has proven time and time again that no one can compete with her voice. Yesterday she had a valid excuse for being off. Check out her performance below:
Others aren't quite convinced that Mariah Carey's less than perfect performance was based on her emotions. Some blogs are saying her voice is shot and that her career will be over soon. I call bs!!! Give me a break. What do you think?

I think she probably was a little bit over emotional....
Usher & Jermaine weren't pitch-perfect for the same reason.
I think her emotions caught her off guard. It was basically only her opening note that broke. Big deal. She sang that song beautifully, and with great grace. And I am not even a fan of Mariah's - so I cut her slack because I empathize with her difficult position there.
It was Brooke Shields' voice that seemed false to me. Her choking up sounded stagey and practiced.
I believe her and am touched by that. Shows she's a real person with real emotions and added to the service.
I liked her performance
