Question for the Ladies: What is the weirdest thing you have in your purse? (Yes, you may go take a look.)
Do you carry a big satchel type purse or a wallet on a string? Something in between, maybe?
Over the years, the size and contents of my purses has changed. When the children were young, I carried a purse that resembled carry-on luggage. That bag had to accommodate band-aids, aspirin, wet wipes, an extra diaper, small candies, a child's cloth book, juice box, granola bar, crayons, a set of finger puppets and much more.
Besides my own cosmetics, wallet, checkbook, planner, pens, tissues, pins, etc., my shoulder bag was a repository for anything any family member did not want to carry. "Put this in your purse, Mom." was a request with which I complied until the bag began to outweigh the anchor for the Queen Mary. Rather than submit to rotator cuff surgery, I would clean out the bag...and find a amazing variety of items.
I have discovered bits and pieces ranging from barrettes to dismembered action figures lurking in the depths of my purses. Crumpled tissues, shopping lists and receipts seemed to multiply in the darkness of my handbag. I'm pretty sure that I could have produced anything for which Monty Hall was offering to pay on Let's Make a Deal.
These days the receipts and shopping lists still occupy a fair amount of space, but I no longer carry a major portion of the medicine cabinet, pantry and toy box. I am free to carry a downsized version of the Mom bag, containing only my own belongings. It's a perk of midlife and a blessing for my posture, as well.
So, what's in your purse? Is it a scavenger hunter's paradise or do you travel light?
What's the wackiest thing you carry in it? Inquiring minds want to know.

My mouthguard. I grind my teeth when I'm driving.
I do too. I thought I was the only one.
I carry a classic Coach bag (friend used to work there so the 2nd's were cheap ;) )
anyway,,, not much unusual in there..... no kids around anymore, LOL.
I don't carry a purse, I carry a wallet like a guy!
I had my purse stolen when I lived in California. It had EVERY PENNY I had to my name in it! Ever since then, no purse for me. I had to call mom collect, to send me money to get back to Michigan. She wasn't too happy with me, and sent the EXACT amount for bus fare, which meant no food or anything for me!
Thankfully I've never had my wallet stolen, though there has been an attempt.
Only thing in there is my debit card, college ID, drivers license, doctor appt. cards, store gift card, library card and some McDonalds coupons.
I have tons of crap. Receipts, cards, notebook, pen, a checkbook/changepurse/picture stash all in one wallet, some old pain pills, and countless other objects I can't even name right now.
I have two small kids and I'm not holding anything for them. Just me. Te he!
I don't like to haul my purse around with me but do keep it in the car. Money is kept in my pocket. My husband always argues with me that I am suppose to carry the purse so he can have a place to put his stuff. I told him to carry a man purse so I can put my stuff in it. The bigger the purse the more junk that ends up in it. Right now I am using a fairly small one. Nothing unusual in it at all. Tissues, wallet, liptstick and a lighter. Guess the lighter is the odd thing because I do not smoke.
I also keep my money, credit cards and ID in my pocket now. Unless he is a receipt collector, a purse snatcher would be pretty disappointed in the haul from my purse.
My husband is also a frequent abuser of the mom bag transport unit. He could at least offer to carry it part of the time. LOL. Man purse = "murse". Not many guys want one of those.
Neosporin
I carry a "mobile home" tote bag in my car and bring it in to work. It is craptastic. If I want to go shopping I reach in and take out my small shoulder bag wallet so I don't have to cart the mobile home. Maybe the weirdest things in it are portable art supplies (which I have yet to use, lol) and my camera. I do take my camera everywhere. At least I use that.
battery operated fan...small one
I do have weird things...i carry wet wipes even though i have no kids...im always spilling lol...my purses are all sizes and i change often i am a purse freak
I hear you, Mallory! Stains on my shirts are a testament to my sloppiness. I now carry a Tide Stain Stick which has helped save some of my clothing.
The weirdest thing? ........Nothing is weird. Wallet, cards, license, occasionally cash, keys, book, pen, brush, makeup, receipts....I change my bags every two months with the seasons...so they don't get too crowded. Oh passports....
My netbook and a roger's stick (internet anywhere)
A pull up
Cat crap! Ok, it's actually a brand name for a product that you can smear on your glasses and then polish the glass, and it prevents your glasses from fogging up (pretty important if you live in ultra humid Louisiana). But it's actually called Cat Crap.
hee hee
Cat crap!
That's even better than Boudreaux's Butt Paste...an actual diaper ointment made in Louisiana. Love that Cajun sense of humor!
I know Boudreaux's Butt Paste well! LOL
I don't have a purse, I think that's kinda weird don't you LOL
I was trying to think of something really weird to say here, but I think Cathi's Cat Crap is going to take first prize! I can think of nothing weirder. :)
I carry a fairly large purse all the time. Started doing that when I started wearing contact lenses over 40 years ago. My eyes are sensitive, and sometimes I had to takek the lenses out and put my glasses back on, so that requires contact solution, contact case and eye glasses be in there.
Right now, my purse needs a good cleaning out, so it probably has a movie ticket stub from a few weeks back, sermon notes from a few weeks at church, and receipts I should throw away. But nothing really weird jumped out at me when I checked. :)
I carry a purse always and they always weigh about 16-20 pounds and sometimes more. I carry all colors of lipstick and blush and face powder to match whatever I am wearing at the time, I carry nail polish that matches whatever my last pedicurist put on my toesies in case of a chip, I carry a bottle opener and cork screw in case I decide to have a glass of wine when there is no one to open it properly, I carry female wipes and spray and wash wipes for emergency situations, I carry my birth certificate (copy) just in case all of the other identification I am carrying isn't enough (excellent since I travel internationally at least four times per year).
I guess the oddest thing would be rash cream...just in case... ;)
I have a few diapers in there.. Kairi is off the bottle since she turned 1 and so all she needs really is a sippy cup diapers and wipes so I just throw a few in m,y purse with a small container of wipes..
I carry a huge purse with everything in it but the kitchen sink. I actually won a prize at a party once where we played some silly game with who has the most bizarre things in a purse. I carry the usual stuff, wallet, makeup, reading glasses, pencils, pens, checkbook, datebook, hairbrush, etc...I also carry a retractable tape measure, my knife (always with me), one time I actually had enough room for my tomahawk (a prop for my job). You should see what I carry in my bra!!!
at the moment, the weirdest thing i have in my purse is $5. haven't had much money lately!!! :)
It would be weird if I carried a purse. Now in my pocket I have a pair of nail clippers that catch their own clippings.
Well, right now it is two pats of melted butter. in my cell phone pocket. Went somewhere and didn't want to throw it away, thrifty me, so put it in there, then forgot it and put my cellphone in the pocket and when I went to use it, I said oooh , what's that and then remembered the butter. But now it is just a big greasy mark, I can't get it out and it is a pretty expensive purse, so will have it forever I guess, only I know what it is, and I lined the cell phone pocket so that it usuable again, other than that, I carry a piece of quartz my daughter gave me which is supposed to keep me in good health, that was after my breast surgery, it has worked, so don't leave home without it.
I carry baby wipes, diapers for my grandbaby. finger nail file, clippers, letters, papers. its just there to weigh me down.
Probably the exacto-knife I have.
I carry baby wipes, diapers, sippy cups, band aids for my accident prone 8 year old, extra clothing for both of them, just in case. jello pudding for snacks. And that's the first bag. In MY bag, I have receipts, phone messages from work, post it notepad, nail polish, extra slippers for when my shoes hurt my feet, alot of pens, a manila folder with scratch paper for my kids when they get out of hand.................receipts and a fan, a paper one...
I stopped carrying big purses when I stopped working full time. I was having too many shoulder and back problems and the pocketbooks make it worse. On a daily basis, I only use a cross body bag. This leaves my hands free to shop. I hardly carry anything in it. So I would say the most unusual thing would be an asthma inhaler. Well not for an asthma sufferer but for other people it would be unusual.
I'd have to say the weirdest thing was a full size flashlight when all the lights in the hallway to my apartment were out....I leave real early in the am and was afraid of falling down the stairs (something I have been known to do on occasion)....LOL
Mine is a large one as I'm always afraid I'll need something that I don't have if I can't carry it all with me. The strangest or weirdest is probably an old-fashioned potato peeler. I like to eat apples, but can't handle the skin anymore, so I have the peeler with me so I can peel, eat, and enjoy the apples I buy at the cafeteria or farmers market without having to wait til I get home to enjoy eating them.
Jan, I have carried a purse since I was 12 years of age. My first was huge but only had a few things that I carried in it. Throughout my teen years my purses were always on the large side. I did carry everything in it. You never know when you'll need something. When I was in high school I wanted to buy a miniature kitchen sink...then it could be said that I had everything.
I can't think of anything that would be considered odd that is inside my purse. Recently I carried to sets of tweezers. I needed to lighten the load and put one in the bathroom. Everything inside my purse is "normal." Well, normal to me that is.
Interesting post!
People laugh at me when they need to know what size something is and I pull out my tape measure.
10 4 u
I have one, too! I used to go to yard sales and flea markets quite often and a measuring tape comes in handy there.
I barely carry a purse. I usually put my cell in one pocket, the car key in the other and my wallet...and off I go.
But the weirdest thing I ever had in my purse was a sock. I went into the bathroom to pee and a sock came falling out. It must have gotten stuck in my pants in the wash.
toilet paper I mean ya never know ! Oh and a little frog that croaks .
Like I said Ya never know
right now, a bill lol :)
the weirdest thing would be my bra...a few months back, i had somewhere to go after work so i changed at work and instead of putting the bra into the clothes bag, i put it in my purse and forgot it was there...2 days later i went into my purse to offer someone some tylenol cause they had the cramps...well, out came the bra...the girls at work haven't let me forget that, lol
Nothing weird - I carry a medium willow basket, because I was tired of having to fish around in my leather bag. Love the basket - everything is right there as I drive or shop. I, too, carry a tape measure! And my digital camera.
The contents are not weird, just so much there - my wallet (with all kinds of cards, including restaurant cards for a free coffee or lunch after 10 holes are punched), my checkbook, a letter opener, nail files, hair squeegies, makeup, toothbrush, toothpaste, cell phone, reading glasses, sun glasses, suntan lotion, and several cosmetic items. I can easily go on a trip with just my bag and a change of clothing.
The weirdest thing in my purse is probably my Garmin GPS unit. I use it for geocaching and hiking but keep it in my purse when I'm not on the trail. It might come in handy for something.
some post it notes and a thumb drive....but, that isn't really weird. Of course it's all relative, I guess.
I don't have anything that I consider unusual; I do have very large bottle of Tylenol in mine right now; I have had terrible headaches with my seasonal allergies.
a hoof pick!
A couple packets of KYJel a dental dam and a chocolate flavored condom.
I just look and decide time to clean, Dont judge me I found my son trogjen small aquare package, I took it away when he was waving it around in the car to bug me many month ago,,,, OPPS
I have either a hand-purse, one with a strap, or a fanny pack. I don't really have anything strange in it, really. I do have a tampon pop out unexpectedly now and then, or some pads. But, I think all women of childbearing age have those in their purses.
When a friend opened her car's trunk one day, I noticed a pair of huge, red clown shoes along with assorted bags, piles and junk. I said "May I ask....?" to which she replied "Please don't." Although I was very curious, I think my imagination supplied much more fascinating ideas for the clown shoes. Anyone care to guess?
She's a clown?
Since she seemed reluctant to discuss the clown shoes, I didn't ask. Most folks would say they'd worn them to a costume party. Her reluctance made the issue much more intriguiging.
I have a rather large bag and haven't seen anything in the comments so far that I probably haven't had in my bag at one time or another - including a hoof pick. Right now probably the strangest thing I have in my purse is a camping tool. It has everything all together in one tool. It's handy for a lot of things. It's taking up space next to the toy cars, the digital camera and the bag of kitty treats. Good question. Peace
I have a huge purse with nothing terribly weird in it. Wallet, phone, keys, lip gloss, scraps of paper from here and there. Coupons for framing at Aaron Brothers would probably be the most unusual thing, I guess.
love you Jan, dear one,,, I use to carry most of whats on your list,,, Now I carry small bag with a reminder not to spend too much,,,Bless you,,,
Medium size naughahide purse with four compatments. The camcorder is about it.
i have a wool handbag that matches my winter coat..i still use it and its summer....i think that in itself is wierd. i just cleaned it out so all the wierd things have been eradicated unless you count gum to quit smoking....its been in there for awhile....and i still haven't quit.
i got a better one for ya.....what's the wierdest thing you have in your car??? me....a bottle of dice
A hockey puck. It's my lucky puck. It's been in every car I've ever owned.
Don't have a purse, or even a wallet. Keep license and cards in console in car. Also checkbook, which contains some loose pics of new great granddaughter, and some store receipts and deposit slips.
If I did have a purse the strangest thing right now would probably be my new dog... it is a 4 week old shih tzu and I either have to carry him or put him in my sweater pocket.
The car question is a great question too Nina!!! There is a frying pan in my trunk? A box of wine bottles (empty) on my back seat (saving to give to a lady I know who makes sagged bottle art), an expired McDonalds coupon on the front seat that just never seems to get thrown away, and an unidentified piece of my car that I can't seem to locate where it goes in the console (just in case I find where it goes).
My advice is not to carry twenty credit cards. I often see this. What happens if you lose your purse? Misery!
In my billfold I carry only my check card unless I go out of town.
You're right, Leo. When I shop, I keep my wallet and keys in my pocket. No purse.
When I learned to drive, my grandma advised me to always keep my keys in my pocket. If I lost my purse, I could still get home.
I don't carry my purse most of the time. When I do carry it, it is rather small. The strangest thing in it would be my metal toothpick that looks like Hooks hook.
You are correct. Purse sizes change with your age and stage in life. I still carry a good sized purse, but not over stuffed anymore. The strangest thing in it would probably be the cup-towel that I don't travel without. It comes in handy for many things. I've even used it to wipe the fog off the inside windows of the car.
Just checked mine. Nothing weird in it unless you count the broken spare key to my son's car... which he doesn't even own, any more.
WELL LETS SEE I HAVE A WALLET WITH NO MONEY IN IT THATS WEIRD!!! LOL I HAVE CREDIT CARDS THAT I HAVE MAXED OUT THATS WEIRD!!!!! HOW DID THAT HAPPEN LOL
The remote for the tv and a Christmas ornament. I am not quite sure why.
Just the regular stuff in my purse..nothing weird !!
