Wilma, 6 days in Canada, wow, what a great trip.  Hope you have loads of fun, rest a lot, and sightsee and ramble about to your heart's content.  Take care of yourself.  Are you going to take your bicycle?

Ooooh... My sis lives in Washington, just at the bottom of the Black Hills. I keep asking her why she doesn't jaunt up to Vancouver, because that is where I would SO go if I lived that close! Have fun, be safe, and relax, Wilma. We will see you when you get back :)

Yes, I've been to Victoria several times in the past and always love it. This time was do different. I was disappointed with Vancouver. Stanley Park was gorgeous but downtown traffic was a disaster with the road construction for the Olympics. We went to Chinatown and Gastown early in the day and their were MANY people sleeping in all the alleys. Plus the Vancouver area is having a BIG gang problem. Our hotel advised us not to go to Gastown or Chinatown after dark.

William, I just haven't had much time at all lately for Gathering. I'm only online right now from the Oregon coast as it is so chilly outside. I'm used to 95 degrees at home!

Enjoy whatever it is you may be doing? Is it one of these things.
1. Snorkeling to catch Octopus for a local Japanese restaurant.
2. Plastic pirate secret training.
3. Conference on the uses of chocolate covered ants in cookbook recipes called 'Yummy Ant Tummy Yummy.'
4. My eyes are closed as I type 'Nude Beach???'
5. Raking up seaweed for lunch and to find pieces of eight.
6. To spy on Sheila D to see if she still eats Fish & Chips.
7. To start a cattle drive to your Amusement park.
8. To tell people you could see Russia from Oregon.
9. Searching for colder temperatures because of your deep love of four letter words like snow.
10. You heard Pat Boone would be there singing Love Letters In The Sand. (Did he wear white shoes?)

Hmm, I don't think I'm doing any of those things. Traffic was bad coming through Portland on a Friday afternoon, so I didn't see Sheila D anywhere. Haven't seen many cattle that I could rustle.

I've HEARD people speaking Russian, does that count? It's been too foggy for me to actually see Russia from here.

According to the Sarah Palin book of philosophy, language and places are the same. Yes, you have seen Russia.

Well, that's great.

Now that I think about it, I HAVE seen Russia as I visited St Petersburg in 2000. So I'm ahead of Sarah.

Thanks, everyone. We had a great time. I enjoyed Victoria more on this trip than Vancouver. There was a lot of road construction in Vancouver in preparation for the Olympics in February. Plus there are many one ways downtown and streets that are closed to everyone but buses. We had a heck of a time trying to get to our hotel. It took almost an hour of circling around blocks and slowly working ourselves closer and closer.
Very aggravating.

I do hope you were able to relax and enjoy, once you settled in to your hotel room. I guess now you know how to get in and out , to sightsee and take walks.

By the way , I love your new icon , taking a while to recognize it, because of the smaller size. I just want to pick it up. print it out on photo paper and then frame it. I just love those kiddos. Of course you too. We have watched the kids grown up, like our own.

I wish I could make my icon picture bigger too, Norma. Just don't know how.

I just tried something Wilma... I downloaded your picture and enlarged it with the Paint program, then uploaded it back on Gather thinking maybe I'd surprise you with a bigger icon but Gather went and resized it back to the the old 550 x 324 pixels. Sorry. I guess it won't allow you a larger icon with this photo. :-(

Guess I'm just whistlin Dixie here, was actually hoping to see a post of some sort about your trip. Suppose we must give you time for that and more importantly, a decent internet connection. Thinking about you. Hoping this is the best vacation ever for you.

I don't even know if I could post an article right now with this connection. It is VERY slow at times to open a page, then it will be quick for a little while. Very aggravating. And the slowness isn't just with Gather pages but everything. I think it's just a fairly poor connection here. I went through stuff so much faster when I had the laptop set up at the bagel place yesterday morning.

I'm having a real problem keeping me rather inactive on Gather recently. I either have a torn rotator cuff and a nerve inflamed. Every time I sit for 10 ~ 15 minutes my left arm starts throbing. We went out last night to a good restaurant for my wife's birthday. After about 20 minutes my arm started throbing and I was putting my ice water on it. When I stand and in some other position I have no pain at all. I think it's a nerve in my buttocks. This of course means I can't moon anyone.
I walked 1 hour an 16 minutes today and then rode the stationary Bike for 21 minutes. I'm down to 226 pounds. Last year I was 283 pounds. I know this means I have no chance to be King in an African nation, but we are probably saving $2.31 a week because I eat less.
I took a pain reliever and I is flying, but, although Hollywood is here in Michigan, I do not want to be cast as the Flying Nun in the movie. I wonder if they will call Sally to revise the role, but she might balk at the hard landings unless she takes two pills a month.

I'm sorry to hear you are in so much pain. The weight loss is great. Surely there must be some African nations with THIN kings or maybe dictators. When you take over, YOU can set the standards.

Can you imagine a slightly fat and frumpy professor 47 or 48 years old who openly says Marilyn Manson is an exceptionally good poet? I could care less if he is a Satanist or collects mummies or wear lady's undergarments. I would bet 99.9% of it is an act. I look at the literature value and not the person. As a teacher I had to think objectively. Like seeing a F word on a student paper didn't phase me a bit. I just looked to see if it fit in with whatever the topic/tale or assignment criteria was.
Remember the Great Alice Cooper. I greatly respect Alice Cooper for great tunes and great showmanship. I still don't think people have given just due to his talent.

One of the more creative Alice Cooper songs hardly ever got air play and one song was often skipped at college parties because it was rather morbid and the last thing anyone wanted was for the Chicks to get upset. The song in 'Million Dollar Babies' and it is a very well produced song and the meshing of melody in and our of the guitar lines is simply very inventive. Well, I know you wanted to hear about Pat Boone. Sorry.

Maybe you can tell me more about Pat Boone next time. Sometime there may be a test on this information and I need to be prepared.

i'm so glad you are enjoying the characters. That tells me I need to do a lot more to develop the characters in my previous writings.

According to Wilma, I think, if you make your characters skinny they can become African kings.

I hope you have fun in Canada. We are all watching the forest fires around Kalona right now. The summer just flys by when your busy. Enjoy it.

They have had the worst fires of the whole Northwest so far this year. Usually we get a bad one in central Washington but so far, they haven't been too big here.
