The FBI doesn't comment on rumors, but here is rare circumstance whereby the FBI made this statement:"Normally, we don't confirm or deny those kind of allegations out there. But, by not doing so, it just casts her in a very bad light."
This only proves the power of blogging. Don't think no one is listening, but the dangers involved here are evident as well. As we blog our opinions, suddenly anyone becomes a source, and rumors and lies gets spread unwittingly as well as, intentionally.
None of us know what is in Sarah Palin's head, and frankly, who cares. I think she's a nice woman who you may or may not agree with, but what is on her mind is for her alone to know, and she was thrown into the national spotlight, and she, in my humble opinion, just wasn't ready, but she is not being investigated by the FBI.

So ... we still wonder ....
She is a public official and in that capacity she owes the people of Alaska an explanation for why she is quitting the position to which she was elected. The rest of the nation also has a vested interest since she herself has stated that she has a higher calling to the national stage.
Of course, once she climbs up on that national stage, she once again opens herself up to the kind of scrutiny she faced during the 2008 election season, although if she is pursuing a position outside of elected or appointed office, the will not be able to hold her accountable.
When a person enters public life--whether it is public service or otherwise--a certain amount of privacy is given up, that is the price of celebrity. I don't think the papparazzi harasses her to the degree with which Hollywood celebrities have to contend so I really don't see what she's complaining about.
