Yes, the incident deserves the title. Seriously.

If you read my posts entitled, "How To Not Impress Your Retail Co-Workers and Customers" Ways to Show Employees in a Convenience Store That You Are an Idiot "How in the Heck" then you know I've been kind of frustrated lately with stupidity on the part of some of the people in my little sphere of existence.
It's not that I'm shocked by stupidity... I've seen my fair share of it. I've even been my fair share of it. (That reminds me, I need to write about a couple of stupid things I did as a kid, because they are funny, having turned out way better than they might have.) Still, I've mostly grown out of the level of stupidity to which I have lately been subjected by others. I know that fire is hot, gravity works, sound travels, etc. I look both ways before crossing the street, and I don't approach big dogs who don't know me. I really think that there is a certain amount of this kind of sense that one should be able to expect to actually be common, just as it is called.
If one were to expect that, however, I suspect that one would be sorely disappointed.
I thought I'd seen some of the dumbest when I found 150 pounds of soda syrup in BIBs (Bag-In-Boxes) stacked with a broken box on the bottom, and the subsequent boxes hanging off of the edges of the ones beneath them, right next to my work area so that they would likely fall on me at some point in the day. (The worst part of this is that the entire staff at my store had just recently read a notice specifically warning them all not to do that very thing!)
I now have to admit that I was wrong. There are people with less sense.
I worked yesterday. I don't mind working the holidays... the non-union corporation for which I work pays double for holidays, including Independence day, which is not really a busy or hard day for us. I was able to get to some tasks I've been wanting to do but for which I had been lacking time, and I work first shift, so I still got to see fireworks (and photograph them... pics coming soon!)
For the most part, the day went well, but this post is not about how well my day went at work... it's about the idiot.
In the kitchen, working next to my oven as it rapidly cooked the hamburger patties I'd just put into it, I heard a loud popping sound come from behind it. This is not a good sound to hear coming from behind a TurboChef oven. In fact, it's a really disturbing sound to hear coming from a TurboChef oven. For those who have never used one, these ovens totally rock. To see how they cook, check out the TurboChef site. The important thing to know for purposes of this post is that the oven's functioning includes the use of microwaves, so it should be understood that if it malfunctions, I'm going to be a bit nervous. With a quick check, however, I found that the oven was functioning normally.
More loud popping noises sounded as I was looking at my oven, and I realized they were not coming from behind it, but from outside. Opening the back door, I saw a string of finger-sized firecrackers going off in our parking lot, jumping around all over the place as they blew up, not more than 20 feet from the gas pumps!
Yes, that's right, folks. Someone wise and intelligent person in the area had decided to set off explosives at the neighborhood gas station/convenience store.
