....to buy a fat pig?
Well, I did buy a pig ...but it's not that fat...and it's not for me, either. It was just to cute to pass up, so I bought it for Suey... she'll have to come visit me sometime to pick it up.
I was being all good and scholarly this morning, intent on working on my essays and making some actual progress.
But then Ross got up and said to let him know when I wanted to leave.
We didn't get to go to the market on Thursday, so he decided he would take me today, instead!
Neither of us had much cash on hand, but I keep a change jar on the stairs to the attic, and with all the loonies & toonies that we pick up along the way ending up in there, we had enough to go on with. I filled my pockets with monies and we were off.
Ross wasn't too sure of the best way to get there, and we ended up on some gravel roads we probably didn't need to - but we got to see some great scenery, anyway. This is a view of the blue mountains (Collingwood area) way off in the distance.

Finding a place to park is not Ross' favourite activity, but we managed, and he managed not to grumble TOO much about the crowds, and how commercial "these things" have gotten and about the guy that thought he was going to back into the parking spot we were waiting to pull into.
There were definitely lots of people.

And lots and lots of junk to look at.

Ross really wanted one of these silverware sets, but we didn't have enough cash with us and he would not go use the ATM.

He should have bought it! Tried to nag him into it, but that didn't work, obviously. If they are still there the next time we go back, I'll just buy the darn thing for his birthday.
I did buy him a new glass paperweight .... I don't really get the glass orb paperweight (preferably WITH flaws, even) thing...but he likes them.

There weren't nearly as many produce stands as I expected - but there were enough for me to get new potatoes (I'm allowed NEW potatoes now and I am SO looking forward to dinner!), nectarines, plums, and asparagus.
There was lots of other produce I could have bought but we left it to the end and we were kind of running out of money by then.
Here's where most of my loonies and toonies went. Aren't they COOL?

And look what Ross got! He was very happy about this find:

He found Larry the singing lobster for only $2!

He actually doesn't care that it's a lobster - but it does work on a motion sensor, and he's figuring on scaring some geeses with it. He's wanted to try a motion sensor thingamajig as part of his geese management toolbox, but hasn't wanted to pay silly sums of money to experiment. $2 was perfect.

And it works too. We don't have an C batteries, but he found a plug thingie that works.
Oh, and since I'm back in to edit to add in the pig picture, I might as well add a picture of the tomato plants - we bought 2 .... already WAY bigger than my pitiful little guys... and they already have tomatoes on them, even.

Hi Flit,
Your market is HUGE! We have nothing like that here - OK, Ok, I admit it, I'm jealous, no, no, not of the lobster, he can have that ;) The produce looked wonderful, and I'd have been digging into change too, don't have a change can or anything - might be time to get one!
The markets we have here (Connecticut) are generally small, and *very* expensive and they have local produce that we can get for less by shopping at our ummm, local produce place in town!
Looks like you guys have everything at yours and more. I have to go and look to see where you are as that scenery is gorgeous too. Where's the pig? :)
Marilyn
The market is just outside of Elmvale Ontario... between Elmvale and Wasaga Beach. I didn't even know it was there - it's not an area we frequent ... but Suey told me about it and I love markets so I asked Ross to take me. The picture of the pig didn't turn out so great...suppose I could upload it anyway though
there...I added the piggie in :)
Now this is my kind of day. Looks like you found a few great treasures. I really like the paperweight, and the view of the mountains.
It was WAY more fun than writing essays!
i love markets like that one!!
Me too, Fran....I can't believe that I've lived here almost 8 years and never knew about it!
I thought the lobster was kinda cute. We did go to the flea market every weekend, but just to big a hassel these days. I just cannot do it in this heat anymore. We have a lot of trash, trinkets and treasures at ours. Love it when the veggies start coming in.
I was thrilled with all of my earring finds.... I didn't pay more than $2/pair... most of them were .50c or $1.
And it was fun picking through to find the ones I liked.
Scrooge wrote a blog about being left home alone again. Poor Scrooge. It's too bad he's such a jerk around other dogs or he could have come too.
Now this just breaks my heart. Scrooge doesn't understand. Besides, he might have needed to buy a cat or something.
I love going to stuff like that! looks like a great day
Looks like ya'll had a great time!
Oh wow! That looks like so much fun Flit. Our little Farmer's Market is no comparison. I'd have so much fun just walking around and looking...(and maybe some buying..LOL)
Looks like a fun day!
Flit, I was just asking you on some other article how was the market and decided to click on your name to see if you'd said. How cool. We rarely go to markets. I think it would be fun. Glad you had a good time, and the photos are gorgeous of the mountains. Besides, you figured out what you needed to know about the essay, so you can do it later.
tomorrow I'm going to get at least 10 pages done. Or more.
That looks like a great place to shop. You'll have to let us know if the singing lobster scares the geese away. :) I see you got some hummingbirds, too! We don't have anything cool like that hear here, either. I think it's because there is so little free space that it costs too much to have a large market like that.
There is another down near Barrie that I used to go to - but it is mostly indoors, and most of the stalls are selling t-shirts and stuff imported from China. I haven't gone to that one this year at all. I really enjoyed the Elmvale market though.
Not sure that Larry's sensor is sensitive enough to work ...but we'll find out
Great finds... the earrings are cool, indeed.
Well that looked like a fun way to spend the afternoon, great looking weather too. I'd love to run across a booth with all those cool Crocs in so many colors..good price too ;-)
I want a pair with holes in 'em just because I found some way cool glow in the dark shoe charms for them in Victoria while I was there. I have knockoffs with no holes to put the charms in. Bad planning LOL
looks like it was fun, funny lobster thing LOL and cute pig
LOVE the earings the hummer is really nice :)
Wow, but that looks like it was fun! I haven't been to an open market in so long. There is one near me too, Saturdays and Sundays, but I never had the desire to go. I guess I feel I already have soooo much junk, and I'd just buy more if I went! I love those earrings and other findings :-) You did great with your change jar :-)
